Greetings 

We are at the final stretch! For some students, this will be the end of their first year. For others, it will be the end of their undergraduate career, and the beginning of their bright future. 

To all of our CASP students and partners, know that you have a community here at UCSD. We fully believe in you and wish you the best in all of your future endeavors and success. Congratulations on a great year and we shall see you all soon!

Are you graduating this year? Then make sure to join us on June 4th to celebrate your achievements with us the week before graduation! 
Chancellor Khosla will be hosting an intimate celebration of your accomplishments as a CASP graduate. This event is for all our graduation CASP scholarship recipients and CASP student staff!



In 2019, we are expecting over 100 CASP students to graduate from UCSD and would like to help you stay connected with not only CASP, but with each other. Join us for our CASP Study Jam! We will have our study lounge open for extended hours as well as offer blue books, scantrons, snacks, and a warm dinner at 5PM on June 7th from 9 AM-11 PM. (Student Services Center, Suite 555). Additionally, we'll be having tutors from OASIS for drop-in tutoring in Chemistry and Math.

Indira Hood-Esparza (from the CASP 2013 Cohort) returns to her alma mater as the keynote speaker for the Preuss Promise benefit. The annual event raises funds for the charter middle and high school on the UC San Diego campus, which serves low-income students who strive to become the first in their families to graduate from college.

Indira shared she will be the first Preuss alum to return to teach at the school. Congratulations Indira on all your success and we are proud to have you as part of the CASP family!

Class2019CLASS OF 2019 - COMMENCEMENT INFORMATION
At the 90-minute  All Campus Commencement Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla will officially confer degrees by academic division upon graduates of the six undergraduate colleges, Graduate Division and professional schools.

Keynote Speaker: Madeleine K. Albright
When Madeleine K. Albright was named the sixty-fourth secretary of state in 1997, she became, at that time, the highest-ranking woman in the history of the US government. Appointed by former president Bill Clinton and serving until 2001, she reinforced America's alliances, advocated for democracy and human rights, and promoted American trade, business, labor, and environmental standards abroad.  From 1993 to 1997, Albright served as the US permanent representative to the United Nations and was a member of the president's cabinet. She is a professor in the practice of diplomacy at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. Albright is chair of Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy firm, and chair of Albright Capital Management LLC, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets. She also chairs the National Democratic Institute, serves as the president of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation and is a member of the US Department of Defense's Defense Policy Board.  In 2012, she was chosen by former president Barack Obama to receive the nation's highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, in recognition of her contributions to international peace and democracy. Albright immigrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia at age eleven, and is the granddaughter of Holocaust victims.

Move Out
Please note that the move out date is  Saturday, June 15 by 6 pm. More move out information will be emailed to you soon. We highly encourage that you begin the packing process sooner than later (so you can focus on finals and not have to worry about packing last minute).

Dining Dollars Rollover
If you have any leftover dining dollars after you move out on June 15, they will automatically roll over into Summer and Fall Quarter 2019 (regardless of whether or not you are living on campus next year). Feel free to continue to use them through Fall Quarter at any of our HDH dining locations. You can view a list of locations here: https://hdh-web.ucsd.edu/dining/apps/diningservices/.

The Teaching + Learning Commons is now recruiting for fall and summer 2019 positions.
 
The Supplemental Instruction (SI), Study Group Leader, Content, and Metacognitive - Learning Strategies Tutoring position campaigns are now active in the Instructional Assistant Data Management System.  Please use this link to locate the applications for each of these hiring areas,  https://academicaffairs.ucsd.edu/Modules/ASES/OpenPositions.aspx
 
Please be sure to search for Teaching + Learning Commons (under Unit, column heading) and then look under the Description column heading for the correct position (e.g. SI Leader, Content or Learning Strategies Tutor, Study Group Leader). 
 
There are multiple campaigns and to be considered for summer 2019 and/or fall 2019. You will need to apply to both terms (the term is designated under the Quarter column heading).
 
If you are selected for a position, you are required to attend mandatory training sessions. Training dates will be determined once positions for summer and fall are filled. Summer quarter work may require training during spring quarter 2019.

Interviewing and hiring will be conducted on a rolling basis until all positions have been filled.

CCRCAPTURE EXPERIENCE ON THE CO-CURRICULAR RECORD (CCR)
Want to capture your experience on your official transcript?

Once you've completed the requirements for a CCR Approved opportunity, please follow the steps below to add the position to your CCR Record.
 
Step 1. Log in to  myccr.ucsd.edu  using your Student SSO Credentials

Step 2. Select "Co-Curricular Record" on the left menu bar

Step 3. Click "Add a position to My Record"

Step 4. Search for "
Activity or Position Name " in the database and with the year of involvement
Note: Make sure you select the correct academic year/ time period. The year is listed in the Activity or Position Name.

Step 5. Click "Add to record" on the bottom right of the page.
 
Once you have requested the position, your supervisor/lead will be notified by email that a pending validation has been requested. Once the validation has been approved, you will be able to print an unofficial copy of the record through the CCR Portal or request the Official Transcript through the Registrar's Office here   . See  here for information on how you can use the CCR to reflect on and share your experiences and skills developed.

What is it?
Alumni Email for Life is a permanent @ucsd.edu email address from which Alumni can send and receive emails. It is a forwarding service provided exclusively to our UC San Diego Alumni to help fellow Tritons, friends and family stay in contact with you.

You can continue using your existing student email address after you have graduated by connecting it to a non-UC San Diego email address. Sign up for Alumni Email for Life to link your address to a non-UC San Diego email address. You will start to receive mail to that address and will have the ability to send mail as your @ucsd.edu address through the non-UC San Diego mailbox. Please refer to your email service provider's for instructions to send mail as.

Every year, The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans supports thirty New Americans, immigrants or the children of immigrants, who are pursuing graduate school in the United States.

Who is eligible for the Fellowship? The P.D. Fellowship is open to US Citizens who are the children of two immigrants, green card holders, and naturalized US Citizens, including adoptees as well as current and former DACA recipients. It is not open to visa holders. In addition, applicants must be 30 or younger as of the November 1 deadline, and they must be planning on pursuing a graduate degree full-time in the United States in the 2019-2020 academic year. Applicants who are beyond the second year of the graduate program that they are seeking funding for as of the November deadline are not eligible.

Ensure your continued success at UC San Diego! Second-year students are encouraged to sign up for 2Excel or 2Connect offering community, advising, and other resources to help you deal with second-year issues, topics, and challenges.

2Excel provides holistic support through personal, academic, and professional development.

How to apply:
  • You must be a second-year student who entered UC San Diego as a freshman to apply to the program (no transfer students)
  • Program capacity is limited to 170 students
  • Submit an online application by spring quarter of your freshman year; registration is open for the 2019-20 academic year
Expectations:
  • Year-long participation from fall quarter to spring quarter
  • Required attendance at a minimum of 2 workshops per quarter
  • Mandatory meetings with your peer mentor 3 times per quarter
  • Enrollment in EDS 23 (a 2-unit, pass/no-pass seminar offered winter quarter
  • Completion of a program assessment exercise at the end of the academic year

2Connect

Compared to the 
2Excel program, the 2Connect program provides more personal freedom and self-directed participation, following your individual needs.

How to apply:
  • You must be a second-year student to register for the program
  • All second-year UC San Diego students are welcome (unlimited capacity)
  • Submit this online registration form by fall quarter of your second year
Expectations:
  • Year-long participation from fall quarter to spring quarter
  • Completion of a program assessment exercise at the end of the academic year
