OLC registration for the Spring 2018 quarter is now open. The deadline to register is
Wednesday, March 7th.
All sessions will be offered during the same days and times as the Winter Quarter. OLC Seminars will take place from Week 2 to Week 7 of Spring Quarter.
Remember attendance and participation at OLCs is a CASP scholarship requirement. This will be your last quarter in an OLC.

TRITON DAY VOLUNTEERS
|
Triton Day and Transfer Triton Day is a campus-wide event for admitted freshmen and transfer students and their family members. CASP will be hosting admitted CASP students and will need volunteers to be on-hand to share your experience and help us welcome our new Tritons. No prior tabling experience is necessary, we'll provide a script and will also have CASP staff on hand to help.

In order to maintain good standing with CASP, you must make sure that you follow the
CASP Eligibility Checklist. Please take the time to review it again before beginning the Winter quarter.
CONTINUING 2ND YEAR STUDENTS (2016 COHORT):
Meet with your College academic advisor at least once per quarter
Attend Faculty Speaker Series (as your schedule permits)
Reapply for FAFSA

In the summer of 2017 we piloted a new project at CASP 101 (our summer transition program), that we call the CASP Living Archive. For the Living Archive, we interviewed and recorded individual student's personal narratives.
These interviews were held before their first Fall quarter as UCSD students and we will be offering them the opportunity to be interviewed again, before they graduate from UCSD.
All interviews published as part of this series are with the permission of the students.

Thank you to all of our Chancellor's Associates Scholars that attended the Hearts and Scholars dinner on February15th!
The Hearts and Scholars is an annual event that unites UC San Diego scholarship recipients with the philanthropists who support them. Chancellor Khosla shared with the crowd the important impact of scholarships, as they transform students' lives and the UC San Diego community for the better because each scholarship has a ripple effect as our students use their education to change our world.

Meet with attorneys and law students who can provide assistance and guidance filling out forms required to apply for a court order necessary to change your name and/or gender marker on birth certificates and other official documents. The clinic will take place in the evening of the first Tuesday of each month, starting February 6th. Schedule appointments at 6:30PM, 7:30PM and 8:30PM at [email protected] or 732-567-8394.

Apply to be the student speaker at this year's All Campus Commencement ceremony, which will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. at RIMAC Field. The deadline to apply is Sunday, April 8, 2018.
The Commencement Student Speaker Selection Committee will review applications and invite candidates to present their proposed speech in person.

The Writing + Critical Expression Hub ("Writing Hub") can help!
Located in the Geisel Library, the Writing Hub offers every UC San Diego student free one-on-one help with any writing project-from cover letters to lab reports, research papers to grant proposals. Visit the Writing Hub to meet with a supportive, well-trained peer writing mentor who will help you gain perspective on what works and what can be improved in your writing.

EMERGING SCHOLARS SUMMER PROGRAM
|
The Richards Center at Pennsylvania State University is once again sponsoring a
FREE summer program for undergraduate students from historically underrepresented backgrounds who have an interest in pursuing doctoral study in history or a dual-title PhD in history and African American Studies.
The program will be
June 24-June 29, 2018 and travel, housing, food, and course materials are covered. Students will receive advising about graduate admissions and research methods. They will also participate in a simulated doctoral seminar and receive GRE materials.
Students should be juniors or seniors during the upcoming 2018-2019 academic year OR individuals who have recently completed their undergraduate education and are interested in pursuing graduate study. Please encourage eligible students to apply.

Scholarships are essential for many undocumented students to pay for higher education, especially students who do not qualify for in-state tuition or state-based financial aid.

DUKE PRE-LAW FELLOWSHIP |
The Duke Law PreLaw Fellowship is a residential fellowship program that introduces talented rising Juniors from underrepresented backgrounds to the many opportunities in legal education through exposure to various areas of law. This rigorous
two-week summer course also encourages and prepares students to pursue a legal education by providing law school preparatory resources - introductory law school classes, LSAT preparation, and professional development panels.
Lodging, food, and travel will be provided for each fellow, along with a $400 stipend.

BREAKING BARRIERS SCHOLARSHIP

The Jim and Julie Lin Breaking Barriers Leadership and Scholarship Award celebrates equity, diversity, and inclusion at UC San Diego. It is awarded to a student who has demonstrated skill and passion in developing new programs or initiatives that substantially impact the Cross-cultural Center and the UC San Diego community. Open to all registered students who entered prior to Fall 2017 and who plan to graduate on or after Spring 2019.

SOCIETY OF AMERICAN MILITARY ENGINEERS

The San Diego Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) will grant approximately 15 scholarships totaling $45,000 to local college and university engineering and architectural students. The scholarships will range in value from $2,500 to $5,000 each and are awarded exclusively to individuals pursuing a degree in Engineering or Architecture.

The César E. Chávez Planning Committee at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) has established a UCSD Undergraduate Student Essay Contest Award in honor of César E. Chávez.
The award will recognize students who have demonstrated commitment to the advancement of César's core values at UCSD and abroad. The Essay Contest Winners will receive recognition in UCSD media publications, in addition to the monetary prizes.
Prize recipients must attend the Cesar E. Chavez Celebration Kickoff Luncheon on Friday, April, 6th in the Price Center Ballroom.

GLOBAL HEALTH STUDENT FIELD EXPERIENCE TRAVEL AWARD
|
The
UC San Diego Global Health Institute has created a travel fund designed to support degree-seeking UC San Diego students who plan to participate in a GLOBAL HEALTH RELATED field experience program. The funds provide critical assistance to students, and help to increase opportunities for students to study, undertake internships, and conduct research projects. Priority will be given to students whose field experience travel is necessary to fulfill degree requirements either in the US or abroad. This field experience opportunity increases exposure to other cultures and understanding and productively intervening in processes of health, illness, and healing across the globe. International Field experiences will be given highest priority, but projects based in the US that have relevance to global health will also be considered. Funds proposed in the US should have a clear global health focus.
Funding up to $2,000/person to assist current students with domestic and/or international field experience expenses, available as stipends for summer travel, and reimbursement for travel during the academic year. Expenses from past travel may be reimbursed with these funds as long as the trip took place in 2018. Awardees will be asked to present their research poster/report at a global health conference such as the Horizons of Global Health Research Symposium and Field Experience Expo, Undergraduate Research Conference, Drinks and Dissertations: a graduate research symposium, or other similar forum appropriate to class level.
Eligible Applicants: Undergraduate, Graduate, EAP, & Professional Students
Requirements: Students must be enrolled during the coverage of the funds, with minimum 3.2 GPA and/or Good Academic Standing. Max. Funds: $2,000/student.
