The 2020 award winner, Dr. Alexa Lamm, Associate Professor of Science Communication at the University of Georgia's College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, will present on Effectively Communicating Science in Times of Crisis. Q&A session to follow.
Communicating science effectively is a difficult task given the myriad of online mainstream and social media sources people can turn to at a moment’s notice. Sharing and obtaining empirically based scientific information during the coronavirus pandemic, the avian flu outbreak, and the recent onslaught of extreme weather events are just a few example of when it has been almost impossible to sort empirically based information from fake news. Based on years in the field and findings from multiple research projects, Dr. Lamm will share her insights on how to reach targeted audiences using the right source, channel, and format during times of crisis so you are prepared to effectively communicate science when people need it the most.
