What's new pussycat? Well, these Arts & Crafts Sophisti-Cats, for a start...

Cats meet the William Morris look in this new collection

Here's a fab new 10-piece collection for anyone who has a feeling for felines.

Lesley Anne Ivory's stunning Sophisti-Cats combines her detailed images of moggies with an inspiration of Morris – William Morris, that is, with a distinct Arts & Crafts theme to the designs.

This latest collection for Blank Quilting Co. includes a cat collage, floral patterns, butterflies, a damask, cat portraits, cats playing with yarn, cats on chairs, and a border stripe. As well as fabrics by the metre, is available as a Fat Quarter pack, and there's also this 24in panel with blocks of cat vignettes, like all the designs rendered in super-crisp digital images to bring out all the detail.

A purr-fect cat quilt, too

The collection also includes this beautiful Sophisti-Cats Quilt Kit, again designed by 89-year-old Lesley Anne, who's illustrated more than 40 children's books, and has been acclaimed as the most talented cat artist of her generation.

Her work has evolved over many years into a very recognizable genre and technique, where attention to detail is paramount to the appeal of her work and it's all very apparent in this 59x77in quilt, which is ideal for advanced beginners. The kit includes all the fabric for the quilt top and binding, and full instructions.

More Morris coming soon – the Buttermere collection

This Entangled Round-About design by Linda McGibbon, making up to 76in square, is one of three quilt kits from the Buttermere Collection from Morris & Co., which is coming very soon – and available to preorder.

The collection is inspired by the beauty of the Lake District, and the work of the Arts and Crafts movement – with William Morris as a significant influence.

The lovely bright palette of vivid yellows and iconic blues running throughout evokes the stunning landscapes and interiors of the area, and the collection can be preordered now by the metre, and in a choice of 16-piece Full Collection packs – in Fat Quarters, Half-Yards and Full Yards.

Look forward to the beauty of Buttermere – preorder yours now

A natural finish with this Morris extra-wide backing

Give your Morris-inspired quilting project a stylish finish with a Morris & Co. extra-wide backing fabric, including the intertwining flowers of this beautiful Chrysanthemum Toile, and all 108in wide for easy no-join quilt backing.

Celebrate World Bamboo Day – from wadding...

It was World Bamboo Day on Monday – who knew? – and that got us thinking about pandas, Chinese food and how the fibres of the fast-growing trees have become part of quilting. Our bamboo wadding comes in bamboo/cotton blends and also pure bamboo supersoft, and we have special offers on everything from remnants to whole roll deals.

...To pandas jumping at the thought of a meal

About the only time you'll see pandas getting animated is when there's food in the offing: usually they laze about, but they can certainly strip bamboo shoots and eat them at a rate of knots!

Here they're captured in Lewis & Irene's Small Things... Wild Animals, which is packed with cute creatures.

If you missed our Vlieseline Open Day...

We had a packed house last Saturday here in Henley for our Vileseline Open Day; here's quilter John Cole-Morgan demonstrating the magical properties of Solufleece:

...And here's one we made earlier

Here's our Judy wearing a scarf made with Solufleece.

You simply embroider and appliqué onto the medium until you have an effect you like, then soak the whole project in water. The Solufleece then dissolves and vanishes, leaving a spider's web of 'how did you do that?' to astound everyone. Magic!

Started your festive sewing yet? Less than 100 days to go, so start stocking up on Stocking Panels and more from our Christmas Shop

So what are we up to? Oh, you know – just keeping busy!

Opening Hours

  • Warehouse Tuesday to Friday, 10am-4pm
  • Marlow shop Monday to Saturday, 9.30am-5pm
  • Next Super Saturday openings October 14th and December 9th

We're thinking of re-naming our front room at the Warehouse – it should be called the Reading Room for the next ten days, as it's full of work from Reading Emboiderers, which is attracting a lot of interest for its show of traditional skills.

While all the big shows are behind us for this year, and we think our next 'outing' is going to be the annual Farnham Sale Day in Surrey on January 14th, we're already preparing for our Janome Open Day on October 14th, when you can also see our Project Linus Exhibition, opening October 10th. After that, we have just one more Saturday opening before Christmas, on December 9th, for those last-minute festive sewing buys. Phew!

(Then – note for your diary – our January Warehouse Sale begins on Sunday, January 7th, 2024, and that brings us back to 'Doh, oh, oh, oh...')

In the meantime, we're open our normal hours, which you can see above, and we have plenty of wonderful Classes and Workshops in the coming months, including a world of quilting with Megan Manwaring.

And of course still to come is our Autumn weekend of Colour Workshops with Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably, on November 25th and 26th.

We have just a very few places left, so don't miss out – book now.

Then, for even more inspiration...

Visit us in Henley-on-Thames or Marlow
Our opening hours are above, including more forthcoming Super Saturday Openings, and you could even come with a group of friends, whether it's a car-full or coachload of you.

Here in Henley we have lots of free parking, space for coaches to set down and pick up, and we can organise special talks and demonstrations for your group.

Check out our Coach Parties page for details.

Click & Collect
As well as visiting us, you can of course also order online – and if you're local to Henley or Marlow, Click & Collect is available. Just order online or by phone, then pick up from the 'front desk' of the Henley Warehouse during office hours, or from the Marlow shop. All you have to do is phone us on (01491) 572528 to order and arrange to collect.
And if there's anything else we can do to help, just call in, phone us, email or message us.
