WHEN DID THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS
DEVOTION DEVELOP?
Every year, 19 days after Pentecost, the Catholic Church celebrates the
Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
But where did that tradition originate?
Hint: It started early and then Jesus Himself
appeared in the 1670's to request we honor Him this way!

HOW DID THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS SAVE PEOPLE IN MARSEILLES FROM A TERRIBLE PANDEMIC?
Our Lord revealed to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque
His wish
for a picture of
His Sacred Heart in everyone's homes
, and small pictures to carry with them.
St. Margaret Mary always kept a Sacred Heart badge with her
and inspired her novices to do the same.
The Badge's popularity increased suddenly
in 1720
after a dramatic event in Marseilles, France.
Thirty years after the death of St. Margaret Mary,
Marseilles was
ravaged by the plagu
e.
One thousand people died each day, raising fears to near panic proportions.
The Bishop of Marseilles asked the city's nuns to make
thousands of Sacred Heart Badges.
He then led a procession to the city's center,
consecrated Marseilles to the Sacred Heart,
and had everybody put on a Badge.
From that moment
not one new case of the plague was reported!
