Are you a VT Notary?

As we approach the expiration of VT Notary commissions at the end of January 2025, it becomes increasingly important for non-attorney Notaries—who are not exempt—to be aware of the new mandate from the Office of Professional Regulation of the Secretary of State's Office, which requires a minimum of one hour of relevant continuing education. This educational requirement must be completed and documented prior to re-commissioning. See the Administrative Rules here.

If you happened to miss one of the informative webinars hosted by the Vermont Bar Association, there's no need for concern; it was recorded and is available for purchase here.

Upcoming Seminars

If you haven't heard, our county seminars have resumed! There is still time to register. The topic of discussion will be Current Developments in VT Real Estate [2 hours of CLE (including .5 hours of ethics) for attorneys licensed in VT].

American Land Title Association Policy Forms License

Policy Forms license ("License") granted by the American Land Title Association (ALTA) is a requirement imposed on all issuing agents of title insurance. Having a License authorizes issuance of ALTA copyrighted policy forms. Renewal is required every January and is based on the number of policies signed the prior year.

If you currently hold a License, you should receive an invoice from ALTA in December prompting you to renew. If you are not currently an ALTA member, you can elect to become an ALTA member in which case the License is included.

Please visit the ALTA site for more information. If you have questions or concerns, please contact ALTA Staff at 800-787-2582 x 333 or licensing@alta.org.
