Celebrating Excellence: Clark Atlanta University’s 2025 40 Under 40 Alumni
In 2022, Clark Atlanta University proudly introduced the inaugural class of its 40 Under 40 Alumni Achievement Awards. Hosted at The Bank, a premier venue led by CAU alumni, the celebration was a spectacular debut—complete with entertainment, inspiring remarks from President George T. French, Jr., Ph.D., photo opportunities with him, and heartfelt words of wisdom from honorees. The energy in the room was matched only by the cheers and applause from all who attended. Since then, the event has grown each year, becoming even more dynamic and star-studded. We anticipate 2025 to be the most fabulous celebration yet.
Honorees are selected through a rigorous process that begins with nominations from faculty, staff, alumni, and university supporters. Nominees then complete a detailed application, which is reviewed and scored by a steering committee. Final selections highlight each honoree’s exceptional accomplishments, meaningful impact, and steadfast commitment to their alma mater. Collectively, they represent rising entrepreneurs, influencers, creators, professionals, and executives who are shaping culture, leading in their communities, excelling in their fields, and paving the way for the next generation—all while proudly representing Clark Atlanta University.
We deeply appreciate the work of the committee in curating this outstanding list of honorees. Each year, this evening stands as a powerful tribute to young alumni whose lives embody the ideals and enduring spirit of Clark Atlanta University.
For Lorri L. Saddler, Ed.D., chief alumni engagement officer, the awards reflect her office’s mission to ensure all alumni feel included and valued as members of the Panther family. Recognizing that alumni under the age of 40 are a vital part of the university’s legacy, along with the team in alumni relations and engagement, she spearheaded the creation of the 40 Under 40 Young Alumni Achievement Awards. “Our charge is amplifying our legacy, and these awards do exactly that,” says Dr. Saddler. “We are shining a spotlight on our young professionals who are making tomorrow’s history today.”
LaGloria Wheatfall (CAU ’09), one of the 2024 recipients, describes the honor with deep gratitude. “There are many lessons you leave with when you attend an HBCU, and pride is at the top of that list. Attending Clark Atlanta University was the best decision I’ve ever made, and being recognized as a 40 Under 40 honoree is big.” In her acceptance speech, Wheatfall added, “It feels so good to be honored alongside so much greatness, so much Blackness, so much excellence.” She noted that the recognition strengthened her pride and resolve to carry the legacy forward, just as those before her had done.
The Fourth Annual 40 Under 40 Young Alumni Achievement Awards will be held on Thursday, October 23, at 7:30 p.m. at Flourish Atlanta, where we will honor the next class of young alumni whose professional achievements, community impact, and commitment to Clark Atlanta University are making a lasting difference.
We warmly invite all members of the Panther family to share in this special celebration. [Click here for ticket information.]

Dear Panthers,
The start of a new academic year is always an electrifying season at Clark Atlanta University. Welcoming our newest Panthers—with their bright eyes, limitless dreams, and hopes for the future—reminds us of the spirit that makes our alma mater so special. For me, both as an alumna and a staff member, this time of year is a source of renewed energy. It deepens my commitment to strengthening alumni connections and to encouraging our students to build lifelong bonds with each other and with CAU. I hope this season also inspires you to reflect on and renew your own connection to our alma mater.
And no one was better at that than one of our most devoted alumni, Raymond “Tweet” Williams (Clark College ’49; Atlanta University ’74), who passed away on August 11 at the age of 99. Alumnus Williams truly embodied the spirit of Panther Pride. From his days as a student-athlete and Hall of Famer to his service as athletic director, mentor, and loyal alumnus, he gave of himself generously to CAU and to our students—especially our scholar-athletes. Most of all, he was a trusted friend to so many in our community.
On a personal note, I hope that you will indulge me for a moment as I share that Alumnus Williams embraced me when I stepped into this role and that there were few people more supportive than him. His presence, wisdom, and unwavering support will be greatly missed; however, his example will continue to inspire me—and hopefully all of us—to strive to do more and be better for Clark Atlanta University. I am pleased to share this WSB video from November 2024, which captures his spirit so beautifully. I hope it brings a smile in remembrance of the giant he was and the remarkable life he lived.
As we look ahead to the International Day of Peace on September 21, I wish peace and comfort to the loved ones of Alumnus “Tweet” Williams and to our entire Panther family.
With warm regards and Panther Pride,
Lorri L. Saddler, Ed.D.
Vice President, Chief Alumni Engagement Officer

Panther Alumni Embrace the Class of 2029
On Tuesday, August 19, the Clark Atlanta University Class of 2029 was officially welcomed during a special induction ceremony in the L. S. Epps Gymnasium at the Vivian W. Henderson Health Center, named in honor of Clark College’s eighth president. The incoming students were encircled by alumni as part of their induction into the Panther family, with families, friends, faculty, staff, and fellow students looking on.
Among the alumni participants was Rita Howey (Clark College ’75), attending the induction ceremony for the first time. “It was a beautiful celebration of new beginnings, filled with hope, excitement, and the promise of new possibilities,” she shared. “Together, we welcomed a diverse tapestry of talent and aspirations. They are ready to embark on a transformative journey that will shape their futures in ways they have yet to imagine.”
The Office of Alumni Relations and Engagement extends heartfelt thanks to the alumni community for answering the call with enthusiasm and support. More than 150 RSVPs were received; however, when the day arrived, even more showed up. The office is grateful for the overwhelming response and thanks every single person who participated in welcoming the new class to the Clark Atlanta University family.

Geri P. Thomas
Bank of America Georgia
President & Chief Diversity and Inclusion Executive (Retired)
Affiliation - Clark College
Career Path:
The summer after my freshman year, I started working at C&S Bank (now Bank of America) in customer accounting and stayed there for two to three years. After my daughter was born, I went back part-time as a teller and then moved into customer service full-time. A couple of years later, I transitioned into HR, where I spent the rest of my career. I retired as president for Georgia Bank of America and chief diversity and inclusion executive.
What Clark College Gave Me:
Even though I transferred to Georgia State University after I got married, my closest relationships are from Clark. When you think about your collegial networks—those are my people from Clark. Clark showed me leadership. It made very clear what Black people could do and the importance of preparation. I owe my foundation to Clark College. I love it without reservation.
Why I Give Back:
I give because I know it’s the right thing to do. To whom much is given, much is required, and I live by that. I would tell other alumni that the times we are in now show us how critical it is to take care of our own. We have to step up and do more. We need to demonstrate to future generations the responsibility of giving and contributing to our institutions. We can’t rely on others. While we can request support, we shouldn’t be dependent. Giving back to our institutions needs to be part of our DNA. Honestly, I can’t imagine where we would be if every alum simply gave what they could.
Advice to the Incoming Freshman Class:
Never underestimate the value of what you’re learning. As a freshman, I thought, Why am I taking this course? I’m not going to teach math. I’m not going to be a mathematician. I’m not going to need this. But I can tell you that even at the very end of my career, I was using algebraic formulas to form strategy and develop performance plans. Everything you’re learning has value, even if you don’t see it yet.
