A Plan for Pursuing a Vehicle Safety Inspection Program in California
A collation of associations and aftermarket companies being coordinated by CAWA has developed a plan that includes: a long term goal - to succeed in establishing a vehicle safety inspection program in California; a short term goal # 1: to assist in the California Bureau of Automotive Repair's (BAR) effort to expand upon the inspection of total loss/salvaged vehicles (which now only includes brakes and lamps); and a short term goal # 2: convince the legislature or a state administrative agency, e.g., Office of Traffic Safety, to finance or conduct a study demonstrating the impact that safety inspections has on vehicle safety and fatalities. See here for the complete plan.

CAWA, Car Care Council and AutoZone Host a Consumer Vehicle Inspection and Small Can Refrigerant Collection Effort
The first program was held last month in the parking lot of a Sacramento AutoZone store and deemed very successful. Nearly 200 cars were provided a free 41 point inspection by trained local auto techs and small cans of used R-134A refrigerant were collected as consumers redeemed the can for a $10 refund on site. Six local radio stations participated in the event and representatives from the California Air Resources Board and Bureau of Automotive Repair participated, as well.

Other programs, coordinated by CAWA, will be held in Los Angeles in September and Turlock in October. For more information contact CAWA's Director of Government Affairs, Jennifer Zins at [email protected] or 916.871.0603.

Recognizing Recognition
I subscribe to the precept that each of us has a very strong need and desire to be recognized for who we are and perhaps for who we can become. And to be appreciated for our contribution. There appears to be a recognition deficit the lack of a job well done is a demotivator and permeates through an organization. Appreciated and recognized employees are good for business. Sincere praise and recognition create positive emotions in an organization. A sincere "Thank You" is a huge step on the road of employee recognition. In our "hurry up" world, we tend to be too busy to say "Thank You!". Read more here. Source: Dr. John A. Passante

Rest Assured CAWA Will Oppose Any Action to Change California's Prop 13
Prop 13
The proponents are led by some powerful public employee unions, including those representing teachers and service workers. They plan to place a citizens' initiative on the November presidential election ballot next year. Their measure would require that commercial property owned by all but the smallest businesses be reassessed at market value every three years. Under Proposition 13, passed by voters during a 1978 tax revolt, neither commercial or residential property is reassessed until it's sold. Then it's taxed at 1% of market value and that can't be increased by more than 2% a year.
