New Employment Laws in Nevada
Nevada The Nevada Legislature had a busy 80th session in 2019, enacting a vast array of new laws affecting employers. Some highlights of this year's session are new Nevada laws expanding remedies available for employment discrimination claims, expanding mandatory occupational safety training to employees involved in conventions and trade shows, codifying the definition of "health benefits" under the Minimum Wage Amendment Act, increasing the minimum wage, requiring annual paid leave for employees, redefining disclosure agreements regarding sex discrimination or sexual offenses settlements, and providing legal protections for applicants and employees with positive marijuana test results.

This article will briefly discuss additional key labor and employment laws enacted this session that are in effect or will become effective in the State of Nevada. See here for details: Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained: New Employment Laws in Nevada. Source: Littler

Standards Board Adopts Emergency Regulation to Protect Outdoor Workers from Wildfire Smoke
California Flag
Employers must quickly adopt the new requirements in early August. The Department of Industrial Relations' (DIR) Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board today adopted an emergency regulation to protect workers from hazards associated with wildfire smoke. The regulation is expected to go into effect in early August. The emergency regulation will be effective for one year and applies to workplaces where the current Air Quality Index (AQI) for airborne particulate matter (PM) is 151 or greater, and where employers should reasonably anticipate that employees could be exposed to wildfire smoke.

Under the new regulation, employers must take the following steps to protect workers who may be exposed to wildfire smoke.

Do You Own, or Do Business With, Diesel On-road Trucks or Buses With a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of More Than 14,000 Pounds?
Beginning January 1, 2020, compliance with the California Air Resources Board's (CARB) Truck and Bus Regulation will be automatically verified by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) as part of the vehicle registration process.

Senate Bill 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 (SB 1), was signed into law on April 28, 2017. This bill states that DMV must check that vehicles are compliant with, or exempt from, CARB's Truck and Bus Regulation. If a vehicle is not compliant with the rule, DMV can no longer register that vehicle. The Truck & Bus Regulation requires that most medium- and heavy-duty commercial diesel trucks and buses with older engines be replaced or repowered with 2010 or newer model year engines through a phase-in schedule.

New 'Cool' Consumer Education Campaign Launched in California
CARB The non-profit Car Care Council has launched a new consumer education campaign in California to remind automotive do-it-yourselfers who recharged their vehicle's air conditioning system themselves using small containers of r134a refrigerant to return the empty used refrigerant containers for a $10 refund where they purchased the product. The purpose of the campaign, which is endorsed by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), is to address the fact that each year thousands of vehicle owners and operators in California elect to recharge their vehicle's air conditioner themselves. Small containers of r134a refrigerant are purchased from auto parts stores and other retail businesses. CAWA is also assisting in this campaign. For the complete press release see here.

The Difference Between Success and Failure in Selling
Several important factors separate those who succeed in selling from those who fail. Although some of the following items are arguably more important than others, they are all critical to a salesperson's success. When I talk about top salespeople, I'm referring to people who are not only great at the profession of selling, they are also great human beings. The Twelve Success Factors can be found here.
