California Fires CAWA Responds - Information You Should Know Now and for Future Reference
CAWA has reached out to our members who potentially could be affected by both the Camp and Woolsey fires in northern and southern California. To date here is what we know:
  • Brake Parts Supply in Chico had 3 employees lose their homes. Tim Hunzeker is the owner. CAWA contributed funds to their "go fund me" account (you can donate here).
  • Riebe's Auto Parts in Paradise had 12 employees lose their homes. Bart Riebe is the owner. CAWA contributed funds to an account being administered by the NAPA Sacramento Distribution Center to help Riebe's employees (you can donate here).
  • CAWA has also suggested and provided information to both Tim and Bart to reach out to the Automotive Aftermarket Charitable Foundation (www.aacfi.org) which has funds to support aftermarket associates in these catastrophic events. Also, the Collision Industry Foundation's Disaster Relief Task Force can give support to industry employees. See here.
Please consider donating to these two companies so they can assist their employees in this time of need. CAWA wishes all those who suffered as a result of these recent fires, the best in moving forward in their long journey toward recovery.

New Employment Laws in California for 2019
This year 1,217 bills made it to the governor's desk and 1,016 of them were signed into law. Dozens will affect employers in 2019, but some won't have an impact until 2020 or 2021. See here for all employment laws. Source: Our Friends at the California Chamber of Commerce

California Sells Its 500,000th Electric Car
According to tracking by Veloz, a first-of-its-kind public-private coalition of major electric car industry stakeholders, California hit its 500,000th electric car sales milestone in November. "This unprecedented, exponential growth of the electric car market is only the beginning," said Josh Boone, executive director of Veloz. "But we need to accelerate the uptake of these cars to make a real difference. Air pollution negatively impacts the health of all. That is why we need 'Electric For All.'" See complete article here. The Two Most Important Character Traits of Successful Salespeople
We know there are many character traits that determine long-term sales success or failure. That said, I find there are two key traits that really separate the cream of the crop from everyone else. Click here for details. Source: John Chapin

Finally, Some Good Tax News for California Businesses
California As business owners know all too well, predicting economic cycles is next to impossible - and there are some major wildcards that make it especially difficult in California. It isn't often that the phrase "good news" is used in relation to California business taxes, but a small slice was delivered recently. Now that more Californians are working - the truly great news for our families and communities - there will be a reduction in the employer taxes that fund the state's Unemployment Insurance program. Net Driven Wants You to Sell More Parts and Encourage the Public to Visit your Commercial Customers
Net Driven CAWA has endorsed Net Driven as an internet/website provider for about 4 years. See some of their product and service offerings enclosed here. The question I posed to them was: Would they give the CAWA discount to our members' customers (primarily repair garages), i.e., $500 to $1,000 off start-up costs? Net Driven's answer was yes!

So a question for you: Would you be willing to promote this offering to your repair garage customers? Particularly, those customers that are looking for an internet presence to promote and sell their services to the motoring public. If you would be willing, please let me know and Net Driven's representative will be in touch with you and discuss what, if anything, they can also do for you because of your promotion of their company. Contact [email protected] with questions if you have an interest.
