State-mandated Retirement Program Now in Force - in California, of Course!
A new law took effect on January 1, 2017 that will require California employers with five or more workers to offer their staff a retirement plan or enroll them in a new state-run retirement program. Employers that already offer their workers a retirement plan, like a 401(k), will not be required to participate, but those that don't will have to enroll their employees in the California Secure Choice Retirement Program. Once enrolled, a minimum of 3% will be deducted from employees' paychecks on a pre-tax basis. How will the plan work and what do you need to do? Contact our insurance partner, Mat Nabity at mnabity@coremarkins.com or 916.835.1676 for expertise on this matter. Another member benefit.

How to Get and Stay Motivated When Selling
Sales is a profession that requires you to be "up" and motivated most of the time. It is also a profession in which you can get knocked down very quickly from the amount of rejection that's required for success. As a result, one of the biggest questions I get from salespeople is: "How do I get and stay motivated?" Here's the answer ( click here). Source: John Chapin

Aftermarket Growth 94% Foreign
"Foreign nameplate cars and light trucks are generating virtually all light vehicle aftermarket product growth. While domestic nameplates accounted for just over 20% of light vehicle aftermarket product expansion between 2014 and 2016, foreign nameplates will provide all aftermarket product growth between now and 2020." So How Much Overtime Do I Have to Pay Under this Scenario
My employees normally work Monday through Friday, 8 hours a day, and all are paid hourly for their work. There have been some issues among the employees, and I want to bring them
all in for a 1-hour meeting on Saturday morning to discuss the issues. I've given everyone two weeks' notice of the meeting. I'm hearing that some of the employees are expecting to get
paid for 4 hours even though they're only going to be at work for 1 hour. How much do I have to pay my employees for attending this meeting? Find the answer here. Source: California

There's Nothing Small About Small Business
Small Business Week: Celebrating California's Entrepreneurs.

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, approximately half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year. This year's National Small Business Week is observed from April 30 to May 6 to recognize the big contributions of America's entrepreneurs and small business owners. The Employment Development Department (EDD) recognizes the great impact of small businesses on California's economy and local communities, and celebrates their contributions to the State of California.
