2016 Leader of the Year Award:

This award recognizes a grower whose record of exceptional leadership has benefitted California's wine industry and is an inspiration to others. The recipient has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to issues of significant importance to winegrape growers and has achieved lasting changes to promote and protect the interests of California winegrape growers. "I can proudly say that we were blessed to have had Rich as part of our CAWG family since the very beginning," said CAWG board chair Aaron Lange. "We are deeply honored to recognize Rich and the Smith Family with the 2016 Leader of the Year award." Claudia and Jason gave heartfelt and emotional remarks upon accepting the award.

2016 Grower of the Year Award

This award is bestowed to an individual, family or company that represents an outstanding example of excellence in viticulture and management. The recipient is an efficient and successful producer of quality winegrapes, recognized for innovation and leadership within the industry.

Thank you, Jerry and Bruce, for being leaders in the industry and for making a difference," said Aaron Lange. "It is our privilege to present both of you with the 2016 Grower of the Year award." After accepting the award, Jerry and Bruce touched on the history of CAWG, the important role it plays, and how the organization has had such a positive impact since it was founded in 1974.

Congressman Sam Farr Recognized by CAWG
Rep. Sam Farr (D-Carmel) was the special guest at the Awards of Excellence dinner. He was honored with a plaque and a framed display of some of the most prominent wine brands in his district. Said CAWG board chair Aaron Lange, "Throughout his career, Mr. Farr has been an outstanding champion for California agriculture and the winegrape industry. Over the years, he and his staff have been instrumental in supporting the wine industry - by meeting with winegrape growers to fully understand our issues and challenges and then fighting for us on the national stage."

5th Annual CAWG PAC Fundraiser and Golf Tournament
Wednesday was an absolutely perfect day for golf at the Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey! Dozens of CAWG members and guests enjoyed the friendly competition. Following the four-person scramble was a wine social and awards ceremony. Thank you for supporting the CAWG PAC!

AB 1066: Contact Legislators in Their District Offices Soon
Next week is the final week of the legislative summer recess, which means legislators are still in their district offices. This is a great time for CAWG members to visit with their legislators locally and express your opposition to AB 1066 (the resurrected ag overtime bill).

Grape Day at Fresno State
AUG. 2 / 7 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Grape Day is an informal workshop and field day at Fresno State for grape growers, managers, winemakers and winery personnel. The program includes updates and practical presentations on current grape and wine topics. Other features include tours of Fresno State vineyards, the grape and wine facilities, and the Jordan Agricultural Research Center. Advance registration by July 28 is $20.
