Keynote synopsis

Phil Evans - Designing and Co-Creating Inclusive High Quality Education

At the heart of the IB framework lies a profound commitment to meaningful learning and teaching. This keynote centers on the human dimension of that work, emphasizing our collective mission as IB educators to nurture students' cognitive independence through the transfer of learning. This keynote is also a rallying cry for dedicated time and school/district support for this work, recognizing that empowering teachers to design concept-based units demands both.

What does it take to redefine the future of learning? We will explore the transformative power of collaboration in shaping educational experiences that truly resonate with students, educators, and communities alike.

Phil will share innovative strategies and practical frameworks for fostering a culture of co-creation in education. Discover how to empower stakeholders—from teachers and administrators to students and parents. With a focus on inclusivity and creativity, this address will challenge traditional paradigms

and inspire you to imagine a more dynamic, responsive educational landscape.

Featured Session Descriptions

Featured Session #1

Leveraging Unit Planners - Kelsey Day and Chloe Suberville

Explore how to bring units to life in the classroom, foster a culture of growth through meaningful reflections, and harness the power of a coherent, written curriculum to drive school-wide impact. This session will provide practical tools and strategies to empower coordinators and teachers in creating dynamic and engaging learning experiences.

Integrating Educational Neuroscience within the IB PYP: Enhancing Learning Through Universal Design Learning (UDL) and Neuroeducation - Laurel Ferreira

We will explore the powerful synergy between Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Educational Neuroscience within the IB PYP. This session will delve into the science of how the brain learns, providing a foundational understanding that will inform our approach to creating inclusive, engaging, and effective learning experiences within the unit planner.

Authentic Assessment in the MYP - Rick Barlow and Micheyla Haro

This session focuses on the design and development of authentic assessments that align with MYP criteria and subject area standards. Participants will explore strategies for creating meaningful assessments that reflect real-world applications. The session includes two parts: a discussion on the principles of authentic assessment design and dedicated time for teachers to apply their learning by creating an assessment ready for use in their classrooms. Join us to enhance your practice and bring greater authenticity to your students’ learning experiences.

Featured Session #2

Creating a shared learning journey to transform your school - Phil Evans

The IB encourages schools to leverage teacher engagement in community. There are a rich

variety of professional learning tools available to schools in the Programme Resource

Center that can develop great approaches to teaching and learning, in the community.

These resources are often the foundational tools explored in the IB Professional

Development workshops, which can be delivered within the local school context for a

significant cost savings to the school.

This session guides participants through a strategic mapping of a learning journey that is

most relevant to the community, while creating a compelling proposal that can

communicate the value of IB professional learning for all teachers across the school, not

only for those currently teaching in an IB programme. Professional learning is central to an

IB World School and therefore a key component of any investment in expanding access for

more students.

Maximizing the Coordinator/Head of School Relationship to Build a Programme - Justin Conn and Cindi Schildhouse

All schools take somewhat different approaches to the roles of the Coordinator and Head of School. This is an opportunity for us to learn from each other and discuss the best practices for supporting staff and students. The session will include a sample breakdown of how coordinators and heads of school can work in concert with each other, and time to discuss our greatest challenges within our programmes.

Authentic Assessment in the MYP - Rick Barlow and Micheyla Haro

This is the dedicated time for teachers to apply their learning by creating an assessment ready for use in their classrooms.

Featured Session #3

Data: The Key to Unlocking Teacher and Student Potential - Kelsey Day and Chloe Suberville

Dive into strategies for using data to inform instruction, craft impactful learning outcomes, and adopt innovative practices that enhance teaching and learning. Learn how to shift from reactive to proactive data practices and drive continuous improvement across your school community.

Language and Learning the IB PYP: Strategies for Supporting Multilingual and Culturally Responsive Classrooms - Laurel Ferreira

By the end of this session, you will be equipped with a deep understanding of the integral role language plays in the IB Primary Years Programme, along with practical strategies to support multilingual learners, create culturally responsive classrooms, and promote language development across all disciplines to ensure every student thrives in your classroom.

IB University Recognition: Vision, Impact, Updates - Dot Battenfeld

The conversation will focus on CAWS vision for IB recognition and how its impact in achieving the larger mission of IB. Topics will include details on connections to access, equity, success for all students and an update on progress, challenges and priorities.
