Sacramento, CA – The County Behavioral Health Directors Association (CBHDA) and the California Council of Community Behavioral Health Agencies (CBHA) released the following statement today:
“California’s behavioral health safety net is in the midst of significant system transformations put in place over the course of the last several years. These changes have the potential to change the landscape of behavioral health services in California for generations to come.
“CBHDA and CBHA applaud the State’s actions to support this ambitious transformation through the 2023-2024 budget, including state investments in a proposed federal waiver, which will finally allow federal Medicaid reimbursement for short-term acute behavioral health treatments at larger facilities. The proposed new community health worker and housing benefits will also help grow our behavioral health safety net. These important steps will help expand quality services for Californians with the highest levels of need.”
“In addition, our members who together represent California’s behavioral health safety net, applaud the Governor’s focus on expanded access to naloxone, and other substance use programs to save lives and address the state’s opioid crisis. We also commend the state’s continued commitment to housing investments, particularly for individuals with significant behavioral health needs experiencing homelessness.”
“County behavioral health agencies and community-based providers look forward to working with the Administration as the state refines investments in the Governor’s CARE Court initiative, as well as other major behavioral health investments.”
