Dear Colleagues,
Over the last few weeks, the Muslim community in Albuquerque, New Mexico has experienced a disturbing set of tragic events as members of the community were discovered murdered. Most concerning is that these murders appear to be connected. As the community mourns and celebrates the life of the victims, CBHA joins them in remembering and honoring the lives of Muhammad Imtiaz Hussain, Aftab Hussein, Mohammad Ahmadi, and Naeem Hussain.
As communities work towards healing, we must acknowledge that these events have a rippling traumatic impact. Albuquerque, in many ways similar to Sacramento, has tried to shape itself into a welcoming home for immigrants, with hundreds of Afghan refugees settling in the city since the United States withdrawal last year.
CBHA supports communities that welcome Muslim individuals across California and the country. Below I have linked resources from the American Psychological Association for coping with shootings and understanding gun violence. We will continue to work to raise awareness about the behavioral health impacts of traumatic events and combat hatred and bigotry wherever it arises.
