Dear Colleagues,
Over the weekend, during what should have been a joyful celebration of the Lunar New Year in Monterey Park, California, ten people were killed, and at least ten more were injured during a horrific act of gun violence. Our hearts go out to the victims, families, and community in Monterey Park.
As we mourn the lives lost on Saturday, supporting the behavioral health of communities is of utmost importance. CBHA recognizes and celebrates that California's diversity is one of our many and most important strengths. Monterey Park, a city of 61,000 in the San Gabriel Valley, east of Los Angeles, is 65% Asian American and 27% Latino, according to census data. CBHA remains committed to being a resource and advocate for equitable, culturally competent behavioral health care, especially in this time of need.
It's also important to recognize we must engage in self-care to continue to do the work necessary to keep our communities physically and emotionally safe. Please use and share the resources below and know that CBHA is here as a partner as we try to heal.
Self-Care:
• Managing Your Distress in the Aftermath of a Shooting
• The Psychological Impact of the Recent Shooting

Yesterday, Governor Newsom issued a proclamation declaring Lunar New Year and ordered flags at all state buildings to be flown at half-staff in honor of the victims of the mass shooting in Monterey Park. We hope together for an end to gun violence and stand in support of communities as they heal from senseless violent acts.
In Service,
CBHA Staff
