CBI MIDDLETOWN WELCOMES NEW DIRECTOR
FOLLOWING THE DEPARTURE OF THE CURRENT DIRECTOR
Community Building Institute Middletown’s (CBI) Executive Director, Karin Maney, is embarking on a new chapter in her career after leading the organization for over 11 years. Under her leadership, CBI has transformed from a small start-up with a $125,000 budget to a thriving nonprofit with a $1.8 million budget and over 35 employees. CBI has become a trusted provider of services and resources in early education, workforce development, afterschool, and summer camp programming and has helped countless families and youth in the Middletown community.

“It has been an honor to serve the Middletown community alongside a dedicated and hardworking staff who care deeply about youth succeeding and families thriving. #cbicares”, said Maney.

Maney will take on a new role as a Nonprofit Consultant and Grant Writer for the Elemental Group, a Cincinnati-based consulting agency that helps not-for-profits launch, scale, become grant-ready, and develop a grant funding plan. “ I am excited to share my learnings and experience with growing CBI from a start-up to a thriving nonprofit and helping other new and growing organizations reach their growth and funding goals,” said Maney.

Verlena Stewart, CBI’s Assistant Executive Director, will move into the Executive Director starting March 16, 2023.

Stewart has been with CBI since its inception in 2010, and she was instrumental in creating the Parent Resource Center, CBI’s first program. Before joining CBI, Stewart oversaw the Robert "Sonny" Hill Jr. Community Center operations as Director of Community Services at the City of Middletown. She is also a member of the Middletown City School Board of Education and its representative for the Butler Tech Board of Education.

“I am very excited to step into the leadership of CBI, especially in light of the upcoming Community Center renovation and expansion. I believe CBI is an organization of excellence and am proud of its accomplishments. I look forward to leading CBI in this next season,” said Stewart.

“The CBI Board is appreciative and proud of Karin’s accomplishments at CBI, and as she transitions to this new chapter of her career, the board is extremely pleased that Verlena has agreed to move into this role. As a long-time member of leadership, she has been instrumental in managing staff, programs, and funding opportunities. This change will bring the needed continuity, and we have immense trust in her to lead the organization, “ said Robie Suggs, CBI Board President.

CBI Middletown is the current operator of the Robert “Sonny” Hill Jr. Community Center and is a part of the planning committee leading the upcoming $10M renovation and expansion, which is scheduled to be started in Early Summer 2023.
