U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Chris Magnus Resigns

As a courtesy to our clients, we would like to share the following message courtesy of the National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America, Inc. dated November 14, 2022:

Customs and Border Protection’s top senior official Chris Magnus resigned from the agency over the weekend after less than year on the job.

President Biden accepted Magnus’s resignation. Troy Miller, CBP’s deputy commissioner, will serve as acting commissioner, effective immediately.

President Biden nominated Magnus to be CBP commissioner on April 12, 2021. The Senate on Dec. 7, 2021, by a vote of 50-47, approved the confirmation of Magnus to serve as CBP commissioner. Magnus was the agency’s first Senate confirmed leader since 2019.

Prior to this, Magnus served as chief of the Tucson Police Department in Arizona, a position he held since joining the department in 2016, and before that he served as chief at police departments in Fargo, North Dakota, and Richmond, California.
