CBPA 2022 Successes -

Year End Summary

Here is our answer to Janet Jackson’s 1986 question, “what have you done for me lately?”

Earlier this week at the CBPA 2022 Annual Meeting we shared a summary of all the many issues we worked on this year. After coming out of multiple years of a COVID induced economic slowdown, CBPA defended the commercial real estate industry by thwarting a back-log of past ideas stunted during the shutdown.

CBPA led the effort to stop the ban of warehouses, mandates on your leases, all while finding major successes in the regulatory arena shaping both the new solar mandate and EV code and proactively pushing forward the Taxpayer Protection Act, a proposition intended for the 2024 ballot to fix holes recently punched in Prop. 13 protections by the courts.

Here are some highlights from the year:

  • Fighting Prop 13 Loophole Tax Measures
  • Taxpayer Protection Act 2024
  • Goods Movement Alliance
  • Thwarting Organized Retail Crime
  • Bill Targeting Warehouses Stopped
  • California Commission on Disability Access VP
  • Trauma Kit Deal
  • Stopping Mandated Parking Costs in Leases
  • Unplugged More EV Charging Mandates
  • 50th Year Celebration
  • Industry Awards Dinner
  • California Commercial Real Estate Summit

We are ready to carry this momentum into 2023 and continue educating what value your businesses bring to the state of California, while advocating on your behalf day in and day out!

Annual Meeting Recap -

New Officers of the Board

CBPA held its last board meeting and Annual Meeting for 2022 with over 50 leaders from our association and with guests from allied business groups.

We were thrilled to see the turnout of membership, welcome new members, review the state of the association, the November election results, our year of advocacy through the legislative process, and elect new leaders to the board!

CBPA Vice Chair Fran Inman, was elected Board Chair for 2023. Inman, a Senior Vice President at a Majestic Realty, one of the largest privately held owners and developers of business parks in the United States, was selected by her peers to serve as Chair. Inman is a noted expert in the transportation sector working on global supply chain issues. She served on the USDOT National Freight Advisory Committee and served as a gubernatorial appointee on the California Transportation Commission for 12 years.

“I am happy to be able to serve in this capacity and know that we have a lot of work to do,” stated Inman. “California is an essential link in the Nation’s supply-chain, and we need to improve infrastructure across the board – from alternative fuels for the heavy-duty sector and freight infrastructure improvements to assuring modern logistic centers can service population centers. I will rally CBPA members to work towards positive solutions and assure that our industry’s voice is heard.”

After leading CBPA through three tumultuous years of COVID uncertainty and through a transition in the leadership of the organization, Joe Marking, a Managing Director – Head of Real Estate Operations at USAA Real Estate, is passing the baton to Inman. Markling is a noted leader in the Office sector of commercial real estate and has held leadership positions with several worldwide companies, as well as professional organizations.

To round out the 2023 officers, CBPA is proud to announce that Francisco Uribe (The Home Depot) and Todd Ferrara (Tejon Ranch) will be Vice Chairs, and Tom Wulf (Lowe Enterprise) has taken on the role of Secretary-Treasurer.
