SACRAMENTO (CA) - California Business Properties Association (CBPA) has tapped long time Capitol staffer Skyler Wonnacott to serve as its Senior Director of Government Relations. In this role, Wonnacott will modernize, redesign, and implement a legislative and regulatory strategy on statewide and national policy issues impacting the office, industrial, and retail real estate industry.
Prior to his role with CBPA, Wonnacott served as Capitol Director for Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen (D-Elk Grove) where he consulted the lawmaker on policy and political issues, developed legislative priorities, and managed Capitol office operations.
Wonnacott has over a decade of experience in government affairs. Prior to his most recent Capitol role, he served as Communications Director for Assemblymember Jim Cooper (D-Elk Grove) and has also served in various consulting roles.
“I am honored to step into this role at such a pivotal time for CBPA. Having spent over a decade immersed in governmental affairs, I understand the complexity of legislative and regulatory dynamics that impact commercial real estate,” said Wonnacott. “I look forward to collaborating with the team to drive meaningful policy advancements that will not only benefit our members, but also contribute to a thriving, sustainable business real estate landscape in California and beyond.”
Wonnacott joins the existing staff led by President & CEO Matthew Hargrove, who assumed the role in January 2022 after serving as CBPA’s Senior Vice President of Government Affairs for over 15 years under the leadership the Founding CEO and President Emeritus of Rex S. Hime. The team is rounded out by Director of Communications and Marketing Will Hixson, who joined CBPA earlier this year, and Manager of Operations Crystal Whitfield, who joined CBPA in 2015.
“We are beyond excited for Skyler to join the CBPA team and look forward to utilizing his extensive background in government relations to help us advance our industry and further support our members,” stated Hargrove. “With this new addition, we are a stronger organization better equipped to face the challenging business landscape ahead while building on the legacy of the past 50+ years of our organization.”
