CBRL news January 2019
Happy new year to all CBRL members and friends!

2019 is an important year for CBRL – it marks the centenary of our founding institute, the British School of Archaeology in Jerusalem (BSAJ). Throughout the year we will be holding a number of events that look at British archaeological exploration in the Levant since 1919 as well as critically reviewing the legacy of Britain's historical presence in the region.

The start of the year marks the start of CBRL’s membership year. For just £50 a year or £20 for a student membership you will receive a print copy and online subscription to one of our journals, you can apply for CBRL funding and stay at our reasonably priced hostel accommodation in Amman or Jerusalem.

Last November CBRL’s Kenyon Institute co-organised a Palestinian literary festival along with the Educational Bookshop and British Council Palestine. UK participant, award-winning journalist and author, Cathy Otten, reflects on the festival in recent blog post that you can read here .

Earlier this month Mandy Turner, Director of CBRL's Kenyon Institute, shared her research that looks at Western donors' peace-building practices in the Occupied Palestinian Territory for a seminar at the University of Cape Town. This week, Carol Palmer, CBRL's Amman Director will be presenting at the International Conference on the History and Archaeology of Jordan that is taking place in Florence.

Finally our friends at the Union Académique are offering two early career research awards of up to €6,000 each for humanities and social science projects – deadline is 31 st January.

We hope you enjoy reading our January news and we hope to see you at one of our events in the near future.
