CBRL news September 2019
Welcome to CBRL’s September newsletter.

This week, the British International Research Institutes (BIRI ) are meeting in Ankara for a workshop on Water Management, as a key global challenge relevant to researchers working across the BIRI organisations. CBRL is represented by Trustee Matt Jones (University of Nottingham) along with Sana'a Al-Zyoud (Al- al-Bayt University) who recently co-led the Newton-Khalidi workshop that was held at CBRL Amman in May.

As the academic term begins, so too does another season of CBRL lectures and events in the UK and at our institutes. After partnering for a second year on the creative literary exchange between Jordan and the North East of England - Alta'ir - both participant authors will speak about their experience at an event that is part of Durham Book Festival on 12th October. Later this month, on 21st October, former CBRL Trustee, Rosemary Hollis will be joined by Seth Anziska (University College London) as they discuss the complexities of writing on Israel and Palestine for academia and beyond in an event at University College London's Institute of Advanced Studies.

We are pleased to share here a blog post that reports on the first workshop of the AHRC-funded Mapping the Digital Cultural Heritage in Jordan Project (MaDiH) that CBRL is thrilled to partner on. The project PIs, James Smithies (King's College London) and Fadi Bala'awi (Hashemite University) will give a lecture on the project at CBRL Amman on 28th October.

Details of all our events can be found below as well as research blog posts written by speakers at some of our October events.

Finally, a reminder for all UK based heads of departments or chairs of departmental examination boards; if you examine a Master's dissertation in a Levantine subject, please do nominate it for the CBRL Master's Dissertation Prize - deadline for nominations is the end of November. More deta ils here .

We hope you enjoy reading our news this month.
