Chesapeake Bay Retriever Relief & Rescue
July 2023 Newsletter
Greetings CBRR&R team.

I am happy to announce that CBRRR has resumed normal operations of rescuing Chesapeake Bay Retrievers and mixes in need of relief and rescue. On July 2, 2023 The Board of Directors, after careful consideration, rescinded the emergency declaration that had paused accepting new surrenders into the Rescue. As such, all regions have begun to resume rescuing, fostering, and transporting dogs in accordance with CBRR&R’s updated policies and procedures.

Over the past several months, CBRRR has implemented significant changes to our policies and procedures to ensure the Rescue solidly projects and enforces a culture of safety to our volunteers and to the public who encounter our dogs while under our care and ownership.

All volunteers, both current and prospective, must review, read, and agree to all current policies and procedures contained in the updated 2023 Volunteer Manuel and sign a new 2023 Volunteer/Foster Agreement before resuming volunteer activities on behalf of CBRRR.

It is our belief that the policies and procedures implemented will ensure the ability of our organization to continue its mission and if fully and consistently followed will provide safety to the volunteers, families, adopters, and the general public who encounter the dogs in our care.

We know volunteers are the heart and soul of our foster-based dog rescue. The unwavering commitment of all our volunteers to make a difference through their selfless acts of love and kindness provide a lifeline for Chessies in need, offering them a second chance at a brighter future.

Our new policies, procedures and safety videos can be found on our website on the Resource Center Page. If you are a volunteer and need to update your agreement after review of the new policies, simply fill out the Volunteer / Foster Application.

On behalf of the board of directors, we extend our gratitude to you, wouldn't be here without your continued support.

CBRR&R "Relief" Mission to help Gryff
a chessie in need!
CBRR&R Southwest was asked by Gryff's family if we could assist with medical costs for Gryff's TPLO surgery as part of our relief mission.

CBRR&R agreed and is launching a fundraiser to help this sweet boy. Gryff's surgery estimate is $3,041.93.
Surgery is scheduled for July 21st.

From Gryff's family:
Gryff is a beloved member of our family who has been with us for 4 years. We rescued him from the shelter in Mesa, AZ and we have loved him ever since!

Gryff loves to swim, hike, and plays fetch like it's his job. He is a gentle giant with all of our kids and insists on helping us put them all to bed every night. Gryff is my shadow around the house, always positioning himself where he can see all the doors to protect us. His goofy chessie grin when we walk in the door or wake up in the morning is a highlight of our day!

With his knee injury, he is unable to do many of the things that he loves without pain. While stubborn and insistent, he continues to try, not wanting to be left out of any of the family memories. We are hoping that this surgery will help him return to the pain-free quality of life that we so deeply enjoy with him.
"I know that CBRR&R will move heaven and earth to try to get rescues, pups or elders, into good homes with people knowledgeable about Chessies. I've seen them arrange transport from Florida to the NE, from the plains states to Washington. For the love of the breed, we really want to see Chessies in a home that will love them. To love a Chessie best, KNOWING a Chessie is the greatest indicator of the home they will provide. I hope these find a great home!" - FB Post 2023
