| | Pearl had her eye surgery | |
Thank you so much to everyone who donated for sweet little Pearl! ❤️ Her surgery went well, and she is on the road to recovery. She HATES the cone, but knowing her, she'll still find a way to chew on Legos! Of course, she insists on being right next to her kids, as always.
Pearl had likely been suffering from this painful eye condition since birth.
Thanks to your incredible generosity, you raised $1,723 for Pearl to have her surgery!
We are beyond grateful for your kindness and support.

| Good-bye to our beautiful Alumni | |
Hans passed away peacefully in his foster mama’s lap as she gently rubbed his ears—one of his favorite pastimes.
Many of you followed Hans’ journey, from being forgotten in a Utah shelter to finding an unexpected home with Dina, who originally planned to transport him to another foster but instead welcomed him into her family.
Dina gave Hans more than just a home—she gave him a life filled with love, adventures, and the dignity he deserved. Three months in a shelter was too long, and Dina made sure Hans didn’t just exist—he lived. From camping trips to hunt tests, weekly park visits, and swim sessions, she packed a lifetime of love and joy into one short year.
We can’t thank Dina enough for loving him and giving Hans wheels and the freedom to run with his friends, especially Music at the park.
Now, he runs free over the Rainbow Bridge, reunited with friends, whole and happy once more.
Run free, Hans. You were so very loved.

By Todd & Heather Schultz
We brought Ranger home on September 29th it took about 5 minutes for him to have our hearts. Ranger was a dog that always wanted to be by you. He always wanted your affection. The more time passed, the more love he would give, and the more we would give, he started being a dog, a playful, loving old dog who acted like he was young. He loved playing fetch. He had two ways to wag his tail, one was the normal wag the really excited wag was like a propeller it was the cutest thing. He found his back about two weeks after he was here sounded like an old growly raspy hound dog. There were so many wonderful things about Ranger.
Ranger was taken away to soon. I miss him so much, we love you, Ranger.

Kodiak was loved by his family
"Kodiak was more than just a dog—he was family, a companion, and a testament to the power of love and patience. Saying goodbye to him on February 13, 2025, was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. Coming home without my best boy was devastating, and it has taken time for my heart to begin healing enough to put these words together.
Kodiak’s journey was one of transformation. He arrived uncertain and sometimes fearful, but over the years, he blossomed into a sweet, loving, and snuggly companion who embraced life with full speed—right up until his self-appointed bedtime at 9 p.m. every night. His story was so special that it was even captured in a book written by my cousin. "K is for Kodiak" is a lasting tribute to the incredible dog he became.
Kodiak was a force of nature, and his presence filled our lives with joy, adventure, and deep companionship. Though his time with us was not nearly long enough, his impact was immeasurable. Run free, my sweet boy. You are so loved, and you will always be missed"

A month ago, our hearts were broken, hopefully our memories will give us comfort. Waldo, our hunting partner, walking/hiking companion, and member of the family was taken from our family way too soon, after a short illness.
Waldo, aka Billy, was smart, strong, silly, stubborn, wild, and oh so non-stop. Waldo, came to us 3 ½ years ago after we adopted him from the Chesapeake Rescue Organization.
A true companion, Waldo (Billy) is gone but we have the memories and the piece of his heart that he so loyally gave to each of us. He will be in our hearts and memories forever.
Rest easy big guy!
| | Chessie party at Lake Mohave | |
Northwest Region - Liz Krizenesky & Lisa Bernardez
We had a wonderful Northwest Regional Director meet-up, though we certainly missed our partner, Melissa!
There’s nothing quite like a Chessie party at the lake—our Chesapeake Bay Retrievers had an absolute blast splashing and playing in the waves of Lake Mohave.
Next time, we need Melissa and her Chessies to join us for the fun!

Mika, a sweet and goofy Chesapeake Bay Retriever, has been through so much in the past few months. After losing her beloved owner, she found herself in foster. Despite all the changes in her life, Mika’s spirit remained unshaken—she still wags her tail in joyful circles on walks, flashes her signature Chessie grin, and snuggles up close for naps (accompanied by her impressively loud snores). But now, Mika is facing another challenge: a cyst in her mouth’s soft palate that her surgeon suspects may be cancer.
Mika needs surgery to diagnose and treat this condition, and the cost is estimated at $4,000. Thankfully, Mika shows no signs of the cancer spreading; she's eating well, maintaining her weight, and remains active and healthy. Removing the cyst will give her the best shot at living out her senior years in comfort and health. The recovery period is estimated to be just over a week, as the tumor is located in soft tissue, which should heal quickly. The surgical team is optimistic about removing the entire mass, given its favorable location.
As a rescue, we are committed to giving Mika the best chance at a healthy, happy life, but we can’t do it without your help. Every dollar donated will go directly toward Mika’s medical care—ensuring she gets the treatment she needs to keep enjoying her favorite things: treats, cuddles, playing ball, and long walks with frequent sniff breaks.
If Mika’s story touches your heart, please consider donating to her care through our fundraiser on Give Lively. No amount is too small, and every bit helps give this sweet girl the future she deserves. Let’s come together and show Mika that even in the hardest times, love and kindness always win. Donate today to help Mika heal!
Any funds raised beyond what is needed for Mika will go toward helping another Chesapeake Bay Retriever in need.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity in giving these dogs a second chance at a happy, healthy life!
| | Gunner is searching for you | | Charlie is getting an important job | |
Midwest Region - Lori Hazen
We often say "Chessies need a job" and 5-month-old (female) "Charlie", will have a very important job! She is training to be a detection dog, working alongside recent adopter Dr. Karen DeMatteo, of St. Louis, MO. Karen is a biologist and professor at Washington University, in St. Louis.
Charlie will learn how to detect certain plant life, important to Karen's research. She will travel internationally with Karen. When Charlie isn't working, she will live with Karen, her husband Andrew, and D.J., also trained in the same kind of work.
We are looking forward to following Karen and Charlie in the coming months!
