Rabbi David will teach two classes on Jewish practice regarding death and dying. The first class will focus on death and dying from the perspective of the one who is dying (end of life, administering or withdrawing care, ritual washing pre-burial, burial), and the second session will explore from the perspective of the mourner (caring for the infirm, mourning, shiva, etc). Both sessions will cover practical how tos as well as address larger theological and spiritual questions.
The third session will be led by Cantor Julie Yugend-Green (Emerita) and will be a workshop on how to perform taharah (meaning “purification,” and is the ritual washing and dressing of the deceased).
You can attend any or all sessions. We encourage both those who have previously participated in taharah and all who might be interested in doing so as part of our community’s Chevra Kadisha (literally meaning “holy society,” but in practice means the people who help fulfill the commandments to care for the deceased) to attend this session.
