Adult Education Series: Death and Dying in Jewish Tradition

Sunday, October 26, November 2 & 16

Rabbi David will teach two classes on Jewish practice regarding death and dying. The first class will focus on death and dying from the perspective of the one who is dying (end of life, administering or withdrawing care, ritual washing pre-burial, burial), and the second session will explore from the perspective of the mourner (caring for the infirm, mourning, shiva, etc). Both sessions will cover practical how tos as well as address larger theological and spiritual questions.

The third session will be led by Cantor Julie Yugend-Green (Emerita) and will be a workshop on how to perform taharah  (meaning “purification,” and is the ritual washing and dressing of the deceased).

You can attend any or all sessions. We encourage both those who have previously participated in taharah and all who might be interested in doing so as part of our community’s Chevra Kadisha (literally meaning “holy society,” but in practice means the people who help fulfill the commandments to care for the deceased) to attend this session.

CBS Learner's Minyan

Sundays at 10 am in the youth lounge, starting on Sunday, October 26

Do you want to get in shape to help your kid with their b'nai mitzvah? Are you looking for more mindfulness in your life? Maybe you're curious about Jewish services and you want to learn more? Or maybe you just want a laid-back way to keep busy while your kids are in Hebrew school. Come join us for the CBS Learner's Minyan! Every week we'll work through the weekday Shacharit service as a group. Our goal is to take around 30 minutes to daven in a friendly and informal atmosphere. We'll have tefillin for those who want to wrap. For questions, please contact the office.

Membership Directory

Final Request for Photos!

Directory photos can be selfies from your phone, a picture snapped on vacation, a formal portrait, or any other photo of your family that includes faces and upper bodies.

As we prepare the updated CBS Membership Directory, we hope to include photos of as many of our members as possible. You have already provided contact information (or opted out of having it shared) but now we would like you to submit a photo of your family or self. Please email a photo to directory@napershalom.org by Oct. 31. In the email, please identify the family member(s) that are pictured.

Photo Submission Guidelines:

  • Focus on including faces and upper bodies rather than full-length photos of the people
  • Email or drop off a 4x6 photo
  • Photo layout should be in Landscape with a clear edge surrounding it - the border is important for allowing adjustments to page layout
  • Submit in JPEG or PNG format, with a minimum resolution of 300 DPI
