Kabbalat Shabbat Chanukah Service
Tonight at 6:30pm
Join CBST to welcome Shabbat Chanukah! Our brightest service of the year falls at the coldest part of winter, and we hope you'll join Rabbi Kleinbaum, Music Director Joyce Rosenzweig, and Cantorial Intern Sam Rosen as we let our lights shine. Light Chanukah candles, give thanks for the light in our lives, sing along CBST-style with our famous Chanukah medley (and everyone's favorite rabbinic solo), and see the premiere of a brand-new virtual choir video by our fabulous CBST Community Chorus! Shabbat Chanukah is a community experience you won't want to miss—Chag Urim Sameach!

Sing the Chanukah blessings and some of our favorite songs with this special Chanukah guide for every night, including Shabbat Chanukah! ChanukahSongs2020 >>

CBST invites you to our winter fundraiser as Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley present "Broadway at CBST" on Stars in the House, a live broadcast benefitting music, art, culture, and CBST! Celebrate Chanukah and support your synagogue as we enjoy an evening of song, storytelling, and conversation. Benj Pasek, Steven Skybell, Judy Gold and other Broadway stars will be performing.

Tuesday, December 15, 8:00pm-9:00pm ET

Mark Meyerhoff wrote postcards to Georgia voters, reminding them to get out and vote on January 5, 2021, for the two open US Senate seats from that state, which will determine the majority and minority parties in the Senate. "Exciting stuff for someone who's never done this before," Mark said. "Loved doing it!" Know anyone who lives in Georgia? Encourage them to vote on January 5!

In Case You Missed It
Shabbat Vayishlach
World AIDS Day Shabbat
On World AIDS Day Shabbat (Dec 4 / 19 Kislev), we heard poignant words from CBST member Mark Fischer, who co-leads Chazak, the Red Ribbon Team at CBST, which focuses on HIV/AIDS education and support programming.

“Al Hanisim,” Arranged by Elliott Levine
and “S’vivon” Arranged by Stephen Glass
In honor of Chanukah, we feature the CBST Community Chorus and Ba’alei T’filah David Fair and Julia Ostrov, singing two well-known holiday songs, in an excerpt from CBST’s 2019 Shabbat Chanukah service.

The words of the first selection, Al Hanisim, form the opening for a special prayer that is inserted into the Amidah for Chanukah, Purim (and LGBTQ+ Pride), as well as the Birkat Hamazon (the Grace after Meals). The words express our gratitude to God for the miracles, redemption, mighty deeds and victories that God performed for our ancestors in past days at this time.

The second piece, S’vivon (Dreidel) is a joyous song about spinning the dreidel on Chanukah, and reminds us that this is a holiday of happiness for our people. It says, “A great miracle happened there!” Stephen Glass’ jazzy arrangement brings fresh life to this well-known children’s song.
