Welcome to the new CBX Global Newsletter
The transportation market has changed in the past two years. These changes have been accelerated due to the interruption of the supply chain by the pandemic, forcing everyone to get out of the routine, reinforce efficiencies, strategic changes, and new logistics solutions.
|
|
As a result, we find ourselves in historical moments, creating challenges that give us new opportunities.
CBX Global is continuously working on innovation, technology, and education to adjust to these unique challenges constantly.
Our best resources are our employees, and we work closely with all of them at all levels to continue to make changes to adjust them to this new reality. Together, the innovative force of CBX will be able to face these new challenges for a better future.

Logistics World - Current Situation
|
As per a Bloomberg publication on June 12, transporting a 40-foot steel container of cargo by sea from Shanghai to Rotterdam now costs a record $10,522, a whopping 547% higher than the seasonal average over the last five years. With upwards of 80% of all goods trade transported by sea, freight-cost surges are threatening to boost the price of everything: from raw material, furniture, and car parts to coffee and retail, compounding concerns in global markets already bracing for accelerating inflation.
A confluence of factors -soaring demand, a shortage of containers, saturated ports, and too few ships and dock workers- have contributed to the squeeze on transportation capacity on every freight path. Recent Covid outbreaks in Asian export hubs like China have made matters worse.
To complicate the already fragile situation, shippers moving goods to and from inland US markets are dealing with additional delays and rail storage fees as congestion caused by months deluge of imports move

from port gateways on all three coasts to inland intermodal terminals. Driver shortages and chassis availability at terminals continue to be an issue.
The congestion could continue into the second half of 2021 as retailers and grain shippers enter into their respective peak periods. Loaded containers are waiting much longer for truck pickup causing significantly higher dwell times at certain terminals compared to pre-pandemic dwell. We are also seeing unloading delays at customer facilities which is constraining chassis resources. Many chassis that have been ordered will not arrive until next year.

PR Ports Authority and JAX Port affirm longstanding partnership.
In April, Puerto Rico Ports Authority (PRPA) Executive Director, Joel A. Pizá Batiz, and JAXPORT CEO, Eric Green, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to affirm the ongoing work of both organizations to grow maritime trade between Jacksonville and Puerto Rico.
JAX is the number one port in the United States for trade with SJU, handling nearly 90% of all sea trade between the island and the U.S. mainland. Puerto Rico is also Jacksonville’s number one trading partner by annual cargo volume, with nearly 800,000 container units and thousands of automobiles shipped annually between the two regions.
“This is an excellent first step to get both cities closer on this trade. I always said that JAX and SJU are one major connected commercial city”, said Joselin Ramos, CEO at CBX Global.

What do you know about the China-Europe freight train hub?
As the COVID-19 pandemic blocked sea and air transport last year, leading to over 1,500 tons of backlogs of international parcels across China at one stage, the China-Europe freight train has served as a lifeline for international trade.
The route has so far transported 445,100 international parcels, weighing 6,171 tons with a value of nearly 300 million U.S. dollars, since Chongqing was approved to transport these via railway in 2016, the China Railway Chengdu Group Co., Ltd. Said. In 2020, the freight trains made 12,400 journeys nationwide and transported nearly 1.14 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) of cargo, up by 50 percent and 56 percent year on year, respectively.

Central America
Changes bring opportunities
With approximately 135 employees in Central American (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua), CBX Global, like many other companies around the globe, was forced to think out of the box due to the Covid-19 pandemic to continue supporting customers with the highest level of customer service.
The priority of CBX is basic: avoid the disruption of the logistics chain for our clients, taking all the security measures for our employees. Creating hybrid schedules, installing home offices for those high-risk employees, follow strict bio-security measures in our facilities, and using all the necessary applications to keep communication at its highest level.
Last year, Honduras was stroke by two category 5 hurricanes, Eta and Iota, devastating the whole country. The only Cargo Terminal in Honduras suffered severe structural damages, leaving the cargo terminal inoperative for months. However, we managed to redirect all air shipments thru El Salvador, taking advantage of SAL-HON customs integration, facilitating the process at the border and minimizing the economic impact. Terminal office reopen on May, 2021, increase regional trucking services, and new VMI clients for CBX.
