Dear Cherry Creek Academy Parent or Guardian,
Your 4th through 8th grade child will be coming home today with a white envelope that
contains their Spring 2017 CMAS/PARCC test scores. As you review these scores,
there are some things that the Cherry Creek School District and I would like for you
to keep in mind.
The CMAS/PARCC tests are aligned with Colorado Academic Standards (CAS), a
more rigorous set of standards than the old Colorado Model Content Standards. The
new CAS standards were developed by 57 Colorado educators along with content
specialists and assessment experts to ensure that all students are on the right track for
annual growth, which ultimately prepares students for college and career readiness.
CMAS/PARCC tests were administered on computers and designed to measure a very
complex set of skills including critical thinking, persuasive writing, and problem
solving using tools not available with paper tests. The new CMAS/PARCC scores
also reflect a new 5-tier rubric of Did Not Yet Meet Expectations, Partially Met
Expectations, Approached Expectations, Met Expectations and Exceeded
Expectations.
This year's scores will be used to identify those areas where your child is doing well,
as well as strategies we need to follow and monitor at CCA to ensure that he or she
continues to be challenged and stays on a pathway to success. By combining our
CMAS/PARCC knowledge with NWEA/MAPS and iReady scores, we also will be able to
determine those areas where your child may need extra support to improve.
While the CMAS/PARCC tests are very useful for parents and educators to help
ensure that all students have the opportunity and resources needed to prepare them for
post-secondary success, the scores will not affect students' grades or be part of
transcripts they submit for college admission.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me or Assistant
Principals
Travis Hargreaves (grades K-4) or Annemarie Mahan (grades 5-8) at (303)
779-8988.
Sincerely,
Principal
Cherry Creek Academy

Dear Parents and Guardians,
We want to inform you that there was an accident on Dayton near the school this morning. A vehicle was exiting out of our employee lot and collided with a vehicle driving down Dayton. This incident did not involve any CCA students, staff or faculty, or our JHL Construction team or their subcontractors. The accident occurred on Dayton off school property. It did involve a CCA lunch vendor. Our thoughts are with both drivers for a speedy recovery.

October 2nd is the 23rd birthday of our CCA Eagle Mascot. For 23 years our Eagle has not had a name. CCA administration has decided it is time to remedy that oversight.
On October 2nd this year students will be voting on a name for our Eagle. Each student will receive a ballot with a list of names nominated by the staff at CCA. The name that receives the most votes will then become the name of the CCA Eagle.
The winning name will be announced on October 2nd . Go CCA Eagles!!!

With the rain coming, we
wanted to remind everyone of t
he cold/inclement weather policy we have for indoor morning coverage this year. If it is below 22 degrees and/or actively raining, students will come inside.
On EVEN days, elementary students will go to the cafeteria while middle school students will go to classrooms.
On ODD days, elementary students will go straight to their classrooms and middle school students will report to the cafeteria.

Enjoy your student's artwork while helping CCA!
CCA has teamed up with Original Artworks to offer this popular program again this year!
This program offers a simple and fun way to preserve your student's artwork.
Sample items will be displayed in the hallway near the cafeteria in school.
Your student will be creating their own artwork in their art class. This artwork will be imprinted on everyday items. You can order a variety of practical items professionally made featuring your student's artwork!
Why should you participate in this program?
This is an investment in the creativity of your student and also boosts their self-esteem! In addition, part of your purchase goes to CCA's PTO. With these funds, PTO sponsors events such as CCA Carnival, Donuts with Dads, Muffins with Moms, the CCA Multicultural Festival, Thanksgiving Baskets for Teachers, to name a few. Fundraising monies are also invested back in school through a grant program for teachers.
Students will bring home their artwork and order forms the week of
October 2nd. More information will follow!

Next Board Meeting October 10, 2017 at 6:00pm
Next Board Communications Committee Meeting October 20, 2017 at 9:00am
The CCA Board had their monthly meeting last Tuesday evening.
Just a reminder that parents are always welcome to attend the meetings and learn more about what is happening at the board level at CCA.
Colorado statutes require an annual financial audit be conducted of all funds by an independent auditor. Swanhorst & Co., LLC has provided this audit for CCA. The audit found no irregularities and a representative from Swanhorst provided a quick report on our
successful audit. The Board voted to accept the audit as presented.
On
October 6, the Board & Administration will honor a
number of CCA teachers who have been here for 5, 10, and even 20 years! We look forward to celebrating these dedicated and exemplary teachers.
The Board approved a new member to the CCA Foundation Committee (responsible for raising significant funds for such purposes as enhanced technology at CCA), chaired by Cyndy Holmes, putting the committee at the optimal number of 8 members. We appreciate the time and energy that all of these committee members put into this important part of CCA.
The CCA SAC (Student Accountability Committee)
voted Aaron Castro as the chair for the 2017-2018 school year. Again,
we appreciate all of the parent volunteer members who make this an important committee and tool for feedback and improvement at CCA.
Finally, the Board Communications Committee met immediately preceding the Board meeting and discussed our communications plan for the school year, as well as goals for working with the new Communications Specialist to provide the most effective communications possible to our community. The Communications committee welcomes and encourages parental feedback and involvement. In an attempt to allow for more parent involvement, our next meeting will be immediately following the PTO meeting on
Friday October 20
at 9:00am.

TRAFFIC/SAFETY:
JHL has planned ahead to minimize the impact to normal school operations, including traffic. Morning drop off and afternoon pick up will not change. JHL has scheduled all deliveries and truck/equipment traffic outside of our drop off and pick up times.
JHL created a safety video for our website, highlighting the efforts JHL takes to separate students from the construction as well as their thorough background checks for their employees, and other important efforts being taken to ensure a safe construction site.
JHL, DCS, RTA architects, and CCA leadership meet and discuss new construction tasks that involve safety matters at weekly Owner, Architect, Constructor meetings to ensure the safest site possible.
TOURS:
We are working with JHL Constructors and DCS, CCA's Owner's Rep, to schedule monthly tours for anyone interested in walking the project to hear and see first hand the progress being made. These tours will be held immediately following our regularly scheduled monthly PTO meetings. A PTO tour was held on Friday, 9/15. The next tour date will be 10/20 immediately following the PTO meeting.
Remember to wear close-toed shoes to participate!
