Winter Break - No school

November 24, 2014
Volume 21, No. 18

Dear CCA Parents:

As we near the Thanksgiving holiday and I reflect over this past year, I realize that CCA has much to be thankful for.

We received another John Irwin award for Excellence in 2014 Academics. Within the Cherry Creek School District, our 2014 academic growth in Elementary school was #2 of 42 schools, and our Middle school was #1 of 11 schools. We also significantly outscored the CCSD and Colorado state averages in all four testing batteries of the new Science and Social Studies CMAS exams. In fact, our 7th grade social studies CMAS test was the highest in the state for middle schools with no pre-screening criteria.

We were able to expand our field so that there is significantly more room for CCA students to play and compete.  We provided CCA middle school students with much larger lockers so that all their belongings and backpacks can now fit.  We expanded our learning space by adding one more classroom inside and in December, two more in our modular building. Mother nature threw a curveball at us on September 29th. Even though the CCA building experienced severe damage in the hailstorm, we were able to get our roof re-shingled over fall break, and we will replace our damaged HVAC system over winter break.

None of these achievements would have been possible without the hard work of our outstanding students and exemplary teachers. I also appreciate the forethought of the CCA board of directors for allowing some previously planned projects to proceed ahead of schedule.   I also give thanks for the generosity and dedication of the PTO and our parents.  You really go out of your way to make CCA the top quality school that it is.

If you are traveling over the Thanksgiving break, please be careful. Take time to give thanks yourselves, particularly for the greatest gifts you possess, your children.

Sincerely,

Jay Cerny

Principal/CEO,

Cherry Creek Academy

CCA will be closed November 26 - 28

in observance of Thanksgiving.

A BIG CCA THANK YOU!
The CCA teachers and staff want to extend a sincere Thank You to all the parents and PTO for the delicious and delightful Thanksgiving Baskets!  A special thank you to Denice Dirks for organizing the annual event. Your kindness is much appreciated.

PTO NEWS

FALL SCRIP GIFT CARD FUNDRAISER

It's that time of year for the easiest way to help raise funds for CCA!  The Fall Gift Card Fundraiser!  This is a great way to take care of holiday gift giving, or buy gifts cards to your favorite stores & restaurants.  Either way our school will benefit!  The percentage listed next to the gift card on the form shows you how much goes back to CCA.  Order forms are due Friday Dec. 5th.  Make checks payable to CCA PTO. Orders will be ready for pick up before and after school on December 15th and 16th.  Please include your email on the order form for an email reminder the day before.  Thank you for supporting the gift card fundraiser and CCA. If you have questions please email Kim Garfield or call 303-717-6935.  Please find the order form  and staff wish list below:

KING SOOPERS CARDS - The King Soopers cards are available for all parents to pick up for free from the Front Office!  This is a pre-loaded card with a few dollars to get you started.  When you use this card, you will help CCA earn 5% cashback.   It's an easy process - you can just "load" your card when you check-out ($500 at a time). It is already "linked" to CCA.  For more details on how to use this card, please go to these links:

Please email Subha with any questions about the program.

BOXTOPS - Way To Go CCA Parents, Students, and Teachers!!  100% participation in submitting BOX TOPS for Education!

Students turned in 6,845 box tops.  CCA will receive a December check.  The Class that came in:
  • 1st Place for box tops is Ms. Dore 3rd grade with 928!!!
  • 2nd Place is Ms. Koenig with 794!
  • 3rd Place is Ms. Williams Kindergarten with 680.

All classes submitted hundreds of boxtops!  Every single clipping counts and adds up, so please continue your hard work collecting, cutting, keeping and turning into your student's homeroom teacher.

The Original Works Orders have been sent home. Please open your order and check to
make sure it is satisfactory.  Orders were double-checked, but in the event your order needs to be fixed, please email  Maureen Wolf.
Please be prepared with the following information:

  2. A brief description of your child's artwork. Here is an example: "Artwork is an ocean with a red boat." " Timmy signed his name in the lower right hand corner." "The picture is horizontal." or "The picture is vertical."
  3. What the problem is.
The information will be submitted to Original Works and they will get the fixed item back to you very quickly. Thank you all for your support of this program.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Yearbook Artwork Contest - We need a team of parent volunteers to vote on the cover art for our 20th Anniversary Yearbook.  The artwork will be scanned and sen out in an email for you to vote on the winning work by the beginning of December.

Technology Cleaners - Volunteers are needed to help clean the classroom projector filters and student keyboards. This will be an ongoing need, and is best done when students are not in the classroom (during lunch, specials time or after school).

Recycling - A volunteer is needed to be in charge of recycling the used toner cartridges. This would be on an as needed basis.

If you are interested in any of the above opportunities, please email Hethyr Fouse.

Traffic Assistants - Volunteers are needed to assist with morning drop-off from 7:25am - 8:05am and afternoon pick-up from 2:55pm - 3:40pm Monday through Friday.  If you are able to help please contact Sadie Jesienouski.

PTO Volunteers - The PTO is always looking for volunteers to help with school events and activities! If you would like to volunteer (and start building up those volunteer hours), please click on the link on the CCA website to add your information.

FREE MICROSOFT OFFICE

Through a partnership with Microsoft, the Cherry Creek School District is now providing students the opportunity to download and install Microsoft Office for FREE!

Students can use their Cherry Creek School District Office 365 account to download and install a full version of Microsoft Office software, including: Word, for writing; Excel, for spreadsheets; PowerPoint, for presentations; OneNote, for organization and note taking; and much more.  The program allows Office to be installed on up to 5 computers, including Macs and Windows-based devices, and used on up to 5 mobile devices, including iOS (iPad/iPhone) and Android devices.

The software will stay active as long as the student remains enrolled with the Cherry Creek School District. Students will need to be connected to the internet at least every 30 days to verify they are still eligible for the program, though no action is needed other than being connected to the internet.

Instructions on how to download/install and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) can be found on the Cherry Creek School District's website by clicking HERE.

Whether you download to your computer or your mobile device, your student will need their student email address and password (i.e. student number) to take advantage of the program.  As a parent, you can look up your student's email address and student number (i.e. password) by going to my.cherrycreekschools.org. Login to my.cherrycreekschools.org using your parent login (username: [STONEWARE], if you need to reset your password, click here).  Once you've logged on with your parent account, click on the "Student Information" tile.  The report will show you your student's email address and student number (i.e. password).

5th & 6th GRADE SKI PASSPORT
Colorados Ski Country USA (CSCUSA) is proud to open the 5th- & 6th-Grade Passport Program for the 2014-15 season.  CSCUSA believes every child who grows up in Colorado should have the opportunity to enjoy the state's signature winter sport.

This year, Colorado Ski Country USA's 5th Grade Passport Program provides participants with three free days of skiing or snowboarding at each of our 20 member resorts. Ski all 60 days or just a few; the 5th Grade Passport is still the best value in Colorado.

If your student is in 6th grade the Passport Program provides participants with four days of skiing or snowboarding at each of our 20 member resorts for a mere $99. That amounts to 80 awesome days on the slopes for a mere $1.25 per day. There is not a better deal on the planet for 6th graders than this one.
