Teacher Feature
Charlotte Janus
Hello, Eagle community! I am so incredibly excited to join CCA this year as the newest 2nd grade teacher! I just finished my master's degree program in curriculum and instruction at the University of Denver and received my bachelor of arts from Indiana University (Go Hoosiers!).

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago but just celebrated my first year in Denver his past March. Before realizing I was meant to be a teacher, I studied graphic design and worked as a designer for the past 5 years.

When I am not having fun in the classroom I love hiking, traveling, immersing myself in a book, and planning for my upcoming wedding! I am looking forward to a wonderful year ahead!
Alyssa Kapner
My name is Alyssa Kapner and I have the privilege of being a part of the CCA
community as a new first grade teacher this year. After teaching early childhood
education at Cornell University’s childcare for 6 years, I decided to move across
the country to Denver, CO to pursue my Master’s Degree in Elementary

I strive to create a classroom environment that is a safe space for all my students to grow and learn together. I highly value the arts in education as well. If you come by our first-grade classroom, you may even find us singing songs about numbers, fractions, vowels, or kindness on the ukulele. I am so excited to share my love of education at CCA.
News from the CCA Library
Volunteer Opportunities Abound in the CCA Library

Choose from the following duties:

  • Mending books once per week. This much-valued position involves gluing and taping, affixing book covers, and typing labels.
  • Shelving books. This requires a conscientious person who is detail oriented with a good sense of order. Alphabetizing skills and a knowledge of decimal places is required. When books are not available for shelving, then ordering books on the shelf is always needed.
  • Thematic bulletin boards and book displays. Pinterest moms will enjoy this activity and can share it with another volunteer.
  • Collections display coordinator for one or two locked display cases. Ads in the CCA Eagle newsletter can be used to find parties willing to display their collections during the year. Themes can be varied including toy collections, such as Legos, Star Wars memorabilia or Native American art, just to name a few.
  • Processing new library books. This is a periodic duty that includes neatly affixing labels and pockets, stamping and affixing book covers.
  • Working the Scholastic Book Fair in October.

There is always work to be done. Training dates and times will be advertised in the CCA Eagle after the beginning of the school year. Sign up sheets will also be available.
Feel free to let me know in what area you are interested and if you have any library experience. My email address is .

Thank you!

Finding AR Books Just Got a Little Easier
The BookScanner App makes it easy to find Accelerated Reader books on Apple  iPads and iPhones. Now your trip to the public library for your AR reading materials can be much more efficient.

The app lets you know if a book has an AR quiz. Just scan the ISBN number on the back. You will also get the
  • Reading level (ATOS BL)
  • Number of AR points available for taking a quiz
  • Quiz number

It will also keep a history on each scanned book for easy reference, which you can delete at any time.

Happy reading!
Choir will be starting up soon.
Do you like to sing?

  • The Eagle Singers (grades 2-4)
rehearses every Wednesday after school until 4:15.

  • The Eagle Choir (grades 5-8)
