Staff Feature: CCA's Awesome Leadership Team
Annemarie Mahan
I grew up in Southern California and attended Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA. Six years ago, Dakota, my husband and the CCA 5/6 history teacher, and I moved to Denver the day after of wedding to start our teaching careers. I taught middle school math for five years before moving into administration at Cherry Creek Academy. This community has become our family, we couldn’t imagine being anywhere else!

In February, we welcomed our first child, Callaghan (Callie) Mahan. She is the greatest joy of our lives! Outside of school, we love to travel and spend time with our sweet girl.

I am so excited for this school year and cannot wait to serve the CCA community as Interim School Leader.
Dave Loomis
I have been at CCA for over 18 years. My wife, Kathy and I, have been married for 32 years.

My son Andrew, teaches 5/6 math at CCA. My daughter Karah, also works at CCA and is a PERA and teaches electives and runs the peer-helpers club. Andrew and Karah are both former CCA students. My grandsons, Makai and Miles are in grades 2 and 3 at CCA.

I love to read, take care of my cats and dogs, play frisbee golf and hang out with my family. I love the students, staff and parents at this school. CCA is the best. Go Eagles!!!

I am excited to get all the kids back to school and to have them enjoy our new gym and new classrooms.
Travis Hargreaves
This is my 6th year at CCA! I am looking forward to a great school year. This summer we have been working hard for the start of the 2018-2019 school year.

I grew up in Orange County, California while playing ice-hockey and enjoying the outdoors. After high school I attended the University of Wyoming where I played lacrosse and met my wife who is a teacher at a nearby school. We had our first daughter last year and she is our world! I also graduated last year with my Masters from Colorado State University.

In our spare time we enjoy hiking, family time, house projects and just relaxing.

This year, I'm most excited about all of the cool things our wonderful teachers are doing.

An Important Announcement from
Wholesome Food Services
Please take a few moments and make sure all of your student's information is correct, including updated grades. Grades are not updated automatically! Providing these important updates will ensure that your student receives their lunch on time.
An Announcement from Champions
Champions welcomes back Ms. Subi this year. Jasper is sorry to be leaving Champions this year, but is happy to be training a new site director during the first week of school and seeing many of you before he leaves!

Looking forward to the new school year, Champions will have a few pieces of paperwork for families to fill out when children are picked up in the afternoon, or dropped off in the morning.

Please give yourself 10-15 minutes to fill out these forms and discuss any questions when you first arrive at Champions!

For new families, Champions is held in the beautiful new lower level community space. You may enter through the double glass doors of the gym, at the end of the sidewalk, off of the staff parking lot. There is an intercom doorbell to press, and the doors will unlock once we answer it.
News from the CCA Library
Volunteer Opportunities Abound in the CCA Library

Choose from the following duties:

  • Mending books once per week. This much-valued position involves gluing and taping, affixing book covers, and typing labels.
  • Shelving books. This requires a conscientious person who is detail oriented with a good sense of order. Alphabetizing skills and a knowledge of decimal places is required. When books are not available for shelving, then ordering books on the shelf is always needed.
  • Thematic bulletin boards and book displays. Pinterest moms will enjoy this activity and can share it with another volunteer.
  • Collections display coordinator for one or two locked display cases. Ads in the CCA Eagle newsletter can be used to find parties willing to display their collections during the year. Themes can be varied including toy collections, such as Legos, Star Wars memorabilia or Native American art, just to name a few.
  • Processing new library books. This is a periodic duty that includes neatly affixing labels and pockets, stamping and affixing book covers.
  • Working the Scholastic Book Fair in October.

There is always work to be done. Training dates and times will be advertised in the CCA Eagle after the beginning of the school year. Sign up sheets will also be available.
Feel free to let me know in what area you are interested and if you have any library experience. My email address is .

Thank you!

Finding AR Books Just Got a Little Easier
The BookScanner App makes it easy to find Accelerated Reader books on Apple  iPads and iPhones. Now your trip to the public library for your AR reading materials can be much more efficient.

The app lets you know if a book has an AR quiz. Just scan the ISBN number on the back. You will also get the
  • Reading level (ATOS BL)
  • Number of AR points available for taking a quiz
  • Quiz number

It will also keep a history on each scanned book for easy reference, which you can delete at any time.

Happy reading!
