Parking & Traffic: Friendly Reminders
Drop-off Time and Location
School begins at 8:05 a.m. Supervision for student drop-off is provided from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. All students must be dropped off on the north side of Caley. There is one line of cars on Caley. We ask that you stay in this line and continuously pull up. There is a yellow sign one car length past the opening of the front lot. NO STUDENTS may be dropped off until they have pulled up past that sign. This is for the flow of traffic and the safety of all our students. Please stay in line, do not pull around cars to get ahead.

Afternoon Pick-up Times and Locations
Strictly adhere to the indicated times. If you arrive prior to your student’s assigned pick-up time, you may be asked to leave and come back at your scheduled time. CCA staff will accompany students at all times. Those who do not have older CCA siblings or belong to a carpool with older members will immediately go outside to be picked up at their assigned time.

Winter Reminders
The cold of winter is on its way. It takes only minutes for exposed skin to become frostbitten if the temperature is below 20 degrees F and the wind is blowing at 20 mph or more, according to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

The Cherry Creek School District asks that parents and guardians make sure their students are prepared for winter weather. Please send your student to school dressed appropriately for daily conditions. Layers are a good idea for days that are cold in the morning and milder during the middle of the day. Protect your student’s head, hands and feet. Substantial heat loss occurs through the scalp so a hood, hat or scarf is essential. Keep hands warm with mittens or gloves and keep feet warm and dry by ensuring that your student wears socks and appropriate shoes or boots.

Students are outside both before and after school as well as during recess time. If the temperature or wind chill factor is below 20 degrees during the school day, indoor recess will be held. If school is cancelled or delayed because of bad weather, families will receive an automated phone call no later than 6 a.m. The Weather Hotline, 720-554-4701, is updated and notifications are posted on the district website,, and sent to local media agencies.

Because the Cherry Creek School District is 108 square miles conditions may vary in different areas of the district, even from neighborhood to neighborhood. Parents and guardians are encouraged to make decisions based on conditions in their area and what is best for their family. If parents choose to keep their children home from school on a day school is held, the students’ absence will be excused.

For information on weather related delays and closures, please click here.

The Hogwarts Express Stops at CCA
Thanks to a few awesome CCA students, the CCA Library has a wonderful Harry Potter inspired display! Hannah B., Oliver B., Roland T., and their family set up their personal Harry Potter collection for everyone at CCA to enjoy this winter.

J.K Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series (and other wonderful books) created a cultural phenomenon that bridged the gap between children's books and adult readers. From young children to those living in retirement communities, Harry Potter found a home and invigorated a love for reading with every age group. Rowling is even credited with inspiring young readers to choose and enjoy longer books.

At Cherry Creek Academy, a love for reading is fostered and developed in students beginning in Kindergarten. In grades K-4, reading is incorporated into students' cumulative Language Arts classes and grades. Elementary students participate in small reading groups that offer individualized instruction and support. Students in K-6 also use Accelerated Reader (AR) as a supplemental part of their curriculum. The Harry Potter books range in AR levels from 5.5 to 7.2 and count for between 12 and 44 AR points. For more information about AR at CCA, please click here. In grades 5-8, CCA students have a designated reading class in addition to having Library once per week. Mrs. Koenig teaches reading to 5th and 6th graders at CCA and Mrs. Dilgren is the 7th & 8th grade reading teacher. 5-8th graders have an impressive novel schedule at CCA and throughout their middle school careers, they will read many classic books like Little Women, Tom Sawyer, The Iliad, The Great Gatsby and more!
2018 - 2019 Yearbook Art Cover Contest
Dear CCA Students and Families,

Once again, it’s time for the yearbook art cover contest! The winning artwork will be our front cover of the yearbook and both 2nd and 3rd place will be featured in the yearbook.

A few things to keep in mind regarding the contest:
  • The theme this year is “Learning today...Leading Tomorrow.” This theme should guide the creation of the artwork and must be included/written somewhere within the art. Tip: Please make it easy to read!
  • Artwork needs to be completed on regular size (8 ½ x 11), flat printer paper.
  • All artwork must be original hand drawings or paintings by the students (no help from parents).  No digital artwork will be accepted.
  • Please make sure artwork is completed in color, not black & white. Note that artwork will be scanned for yearbook publication - when considering use of water colors, oil, crayon, colored pencils, etc.
  • For entry into the contest artwork should be given to students’ homeroom teachers or to the front office.
  • The deadline for students turning in artwork is Friday January 18, 2018.
  • The student with the winning artwork (1st place) will receive a free yearbook and will be notified/announced in the Eagle.
  • PLEASE WRITE YOUR NAME, GRADE, AND HOMEROOM TEACHER ON THE BACK OF YOUR ARTWORK. We will return all art and want to be sure the proper credit is given in the yearbook!
  • The artwork will be put in three grade categories for judging K-2nd, 3rd-5th & 6th-8th

We look forward to the students’ continued participation in the creation of the yearbook!

Thank you,
The CCA Yearbook Committee
