Eighth Grade: Local High School Counselors Visiting CCA
Beginning this week, local high school counselors are meeting with interested CCA eighth graders. This is a wonderful opportunity for our eighth graders to begin showcasing their blossoming independence as they interact with these representatives and gather registration materials. Please check in with your student so they can share this information with you. If you have any questions, please contact Dean Loomis by email ( dloomis@cherrycreekacademy.org).
Intent to Return
Cherry Creek Academy will begin offering available slots on Monday, February 4th for the 2019-2020 school year. In order to ensure CCA has an accurate count for the next school year, we ask that you please take the time to complete this  Intent to Return   Form. Please note that if you indicate a child is not returning, this acts as a withdrawal form with an effective date of the last day of school.

Please direct any questions or concerns to Caitlin Sullivan, CCA Registrar, at  csullivan@cherrycreekacademy.org
Highlights: A Recap of Last Week
Academic Awards Assemblies:
CCA's Excelling & it Shows on Student Report Cards
Quarter 1 and 2 Academic Awards Assembly celebrated our students' academic achievement. Great job to all of CCA's studious academicians!
Eighth Grade Empathy: The Holocaust Unit
On Friday, February 1, 2019, CCA eighth graders focused on building empathy and compassion while participating in a Holocaust experience activity. This hands on activity made their Holocaust unit more personal. They began by standing in a darkened room with their peers as they listened to real life testimony from a survivor of the Holocaust that was transported on a cattle car. The eighth grade classes then moved to the innovation space where they followed the experiences Eli Wiesel, the author of "Night" and a Holocaust survivor. The activity wrapped up with students designing and sharing the museum exhibits they created.
Cleo Parker Dance Assembly: A HUGE Success!
On Thursday, January 31st, dancers from the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance organization gave an amazing performance for CCA students and staff! Dancers, Jessica Horton, Lauren C. Smith, Alyssa Baker, Rhianna Jodan, and Cedric D. Hall, demonstrated various dance styles and incorporated life-changing social and emotional skills, accountability, work ethic, and teamwork as they wowed students with their memorizing movement and creative expression.
Skate City Party: Success!
We had solid turnout for the skate party last week, especially after the weather reschedule. 51 skaters came out and had a great time!
Staff V. Student Basketball Game
A HUGE thanks to all of the students and staff who participated in the staff v. student basketball game (or cheered from the sidelines). Thank you to all the families who supported CCA basketball players throughout the regular season. It was an awesome experience and the CCA athletes really enjoyed showing off their skills!

It was a tightly contested battle, but in the end staff pulled out the victory!

A special thanks to CCA's 5/6 history teacher and Athletic Director , Mr. Mahan for coordinating, supporting and organizing a great basketball season.
Math Counts: CCA Mathletes Compete
Congratulations to the 10 CCA students who participated in the prestigious Math Counts competition at the University of Denver this past Saturday, February 2, 2019! Math Counts Participants: Dhiren R., Saksham H., Naren M., Rahil S., Andreas T., Sanvi S., Impa B., Prajit M., David K., and Sujith R.
Peer Tutoring for Students in K-4 :
Wednesdays from 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.

Peer Tutoring is now available on Wednesday mornings from 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. Tutoring is available on a first come first serve basis for students in grades K-4. Peer Tutoring is being offered by CCA's Peer Helpers. Students can come in for homework help or to work on AR goals.

For Wednesday morning tutoring, please check in with Ms. Sadie at the front desk. We are able to help tutor 3 students per Peer Helper (about 6 students total). Peer Tutoring will be held in the conference rooms in the front office. Students who arrive for Peer Tutoring are expected to stay the entire 30 minutes. Once the student limit is met, any other student present for tutoring will be directed to the gym.

If your child will be attending Peer Tutoring, please have them bring 1-2 AR books, as well as any homework they would like to work on. There will be computers available for students to take AR quizzes.
Caring Community:
January 2019
*denotes winners
CCA staff recognizes students who demonstrate our 8 character values (leadership, responsibility, respect, loyalty, integrity, humility, diligence and compassion) with Caring Community awards. Bimonthly, a name from each grade level is drawn for the Monthly Caring Community Winners. Free dress and a prize is rewarded.
Celebrating The Cultures of the World
Are you excited about celebrating the different cultures of the world with a fun filled evening of music, dance, food, and activities from various countries? The CCA Multicultural Festival 2019 will be celebrated on Friday, March 29, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Friday at Cherry Creek High School (Information Center Building). Due to space and parking limitations at CCA, we have decided to continue celebrating our festival at Cherry Creek High school.

We are looking for volunteers to represent different countries, cultures, or continents; volunteers to help out with the event in general; and CCA students, staff, and parents willing to showcase performances from the various cultures.

CCA Library News
The Library is looking for parents or students willing to display their collections during the year. Themes can vary including antique toys, Star Wars memorabilia or Native American art, just to name a few. Kids have already enjoyed a baseball and a Harry Potter Lego display. All items are kept under lock-and-key and a parent volunteer is also available to help set up. Email Amy Larson , the CCA Librarian for inquiries and details.
The CCA Library needs volunteers that can come in regularly from 1:30 to 4:00 on Wednesdays, or from 2:30 to 4:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. After school hours are also available. The job requires a conscientious person who is detail oriented with a good sense of order. Alphabetizing skills and a knowledge of decimal places is required. When books are not available for shelving, then organizing books on the shelf is always needed.
