A Message from SAC
CCA’s School Accountability Committee (SAC) appreciates the participation of all parents in the 2018 CCA Climate Survey.

We had 320 responses from the surveys, a record number! The full Executive Summary and listing of written comments is available for review at the school’s front desk. The data has been provided to the Parent Board, Administration Leadership Team, PTO and CCA Foundation to review. Please be aware that we must comply with FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and CORA (Colorado Open Records Act) confidentiality laws and thus names and positions have been removed.

For a review of SAC Survey Procedures, please see the CCA website under SAC. You may also contact the SAC parent co-chair Aaron Castro or the Board Members assigned to the SAC, Andrea Evashevski and Annie Harnett with any questions.

Additionally, a summary of the data will be presented at the Town Hall on May 8 th at 6:00 p.m.

Thanks again!

Two teams, the Sly Foxes and the Wise Owls will compete in an all school reading competition to see which can earn the most Accelerated Reader points. Mr. Hargreaves and Dean Loomis will co-captain the parliament of Wise Owls while Mr. Cerny and Mrs. Nowak will co-captain the Skulk of Sly Foxes. (Yes! This is what groups of owls and foxes are called!)

The Rules
Teams must maintain an 85 percent or higher quiz average to receive full credit for all points that are earned. Students who do not adequately help their team earn points are ineligible for prizes.
Students may only take tests in their designated reading range.
An entire class may not take a quiz on the same book during the challenge period (except kindergarten).
Prizes will be awarded for every 750 AR team points earned.

First Grade - 65 AR points
Second Grade - 90 AR points
Third through Sixth Grades - 100 AR points
Seventh and Eighth Grades - 125 AR points

Seventh and Eighth Grade students may take AR quizzes to earn points, even though they no longer have an Accelerated Reader requirement.

by Friday, May 11 th .

Former CCA alumni Emma Hope, holds the record, earning a whopping 2,004 points within one year. She was only in the fifth grade, at the time, and has held the record since 2009. That is long time! Is it time for a new record holder?

Servers are also needed to hand out root beer and ice cream to students during recess on May 18 th from 10:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Please let Mrs. Larson know if you are interested by emailing her at . Teacher/Staff Feature
Lola Dolinsky is a speech-language pathologist (SLP) for the Cherry Creek School District. This is her first year in CCSD. Currently, she works at two schools, Cherry Creek Academy (K-8 th ) and Meadow Point Elementary (K-5 th ), serving a diverse population of students with a range of communication needs (expressive, receptive, and social/pragmatic language; articulation; fluency; alternative and augmentative
communication (AAC)).

Ms. Dolinsky (or “Ms. Lola” to students) grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 2011, she earned a bachelor’s
degree in Linguistics from Colorado University in Boulder. Later, she earned her master’s degree in
speech-language pathology from the University of Tulsa. She truly enjoys getting to know the students at
CCA and supporting their development of effective communication skills.

Ms. Dolinsky enjoys music, travel, languages, cooking, and most importantly, humor. Thus, she likes to
spend her free time going to concerns, playing guitar, snowboarding, outdoor activities, and laughing or
attempting to make people laugh.
Karen Hampel is our school social worker. She spent the last two years working as one of the PBIS and Bullying Prevention Coordinators for the Cherry Creek District. She has been a social worker in CCSD for 17 years.

Karen is originally from Darien, IL, just outside of Chicago. She has been a happy Colorado transplant
since 2001. She received her Masters from the Jane Addams School of Social Work at the University of
Illinois at Chicago and her undergraduate degrees in English Literature and International Studies from
Miami of Ohio.

Karen is currently raising two Colorado natives, Lila (5) and Kyle (9) with her husband Scott (a transplant from Michigan). They love family time in Winter Park skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and hiking. Karen is an avid traveler who spent part of winter break in Laos with her son and went to Mexico with
the whole family over fall break. Karen also loves to garden, read and cook.

Ms. Hampel believes that “children do well when they can” and is grateful that her job allows her to help families and teachers figure out what is getting in the way when students are struggling. She
believes strongly in implementing proactive practices in schools, such as social-emotional education and bullying prevention, to help students develop the myriad tools they need to be successful in life.
Mili Hilbert was born Milagros Vargas Suarez in New York City, and spent her childhood there. Mili has lived in Texas, Virginia, and moved here from New Jersey in 2016.

As a preteen her family moved back to their native Puerto Rico. Upon graduation from high school, she attended the University of Puerto Rico as a pre-med student. Wanting to pursue something practical, since she
had always been an indoor, book reading nerd, she shocked her family and friends by joining the US Army. There she put her pre-med studies to use by studying medical laboratory procedures. She spent many
years as a medical technologist, specializing in immunohematology and
general laboratory, until an accident caused her to change fields.

A good friend who taught Spanish convinced her to return to school and become a teacher, which Mili had always wanted to do. She received her BA in Spanish from Rutgers University. She continued and completed her MA in Spanish in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, through the University of Northern Iowa. She started to work on her PhD until life changes brought her to Colorado.

JHL has planned ahead to minimize the impact to normal school operations, including traffic. Morning drop off and afternoon pick up will not change. JHL has scheduled all deliveries and truck/equipment traffic outside of our drop off and pick up times.

JHL created a safety video for our website, highlighting the efforts JHL takes to separate students from the construction as well as their thorough background checks for their employees, and other important efforts being taken to ensure a safe construction site.

JHL, DCS, RTA architects, and CCA leadership meet and discuss new construction tasks that involve safety matters at weekly Owner, Architect, Constructor meetings to ensure the safest site possible.

We are working with JHL Constructors and DCS, CCA's Owner's Rep, to schedule monthly tours for anyone interested in walking the project to hear and see first hand the progress being made. These tours will be held immediately following our regularly scheduled monthly PTO meetings. The next tour date will be 04/20 immediately following the PTO meeting.  Remember to wear close-toed shoes to participate!
