The money they raise will be donated to CCA for technology needs and additional furnishings for our new gym and office areas. Checks can be written to the CCA Foundation (please put the student's name and grade in the memo line), or you can donate online at  #

Alexa Labozan is in her second year of teaching 4th grade at CCA! She grew up in Boulder, Colorado, attending Peak to Peak Charter school. Alexa knew from an early age that she wanted to be a teacher, and after attending Peak to Peak, she knew charter schools were where she wanted to teach! In 2009, Alexa joined the education program at UNC in Greeley, Colorado.

After graduating with a degree in elementary education in 2014, Alexa spent time traveling to new and exciting places. Her first stop was Hangzhou, China where she taught English. She loved experiencing a new culture and different way of living. China was filled with unique experiences that still impact Alexa today. After leaving China, she traveled to Italy, and then New Zealand. While spending a year in New Zealand, Alexa met her husband. New Zealand is now her home away from home!

In Alexa’s free time she love reading, cooking, baking, biking, and jigsaw puzzling. She loves spending time with her family, friends, and pup Archie. Alexa also has a big love of reptiles! She keeps Rosie the Cornsnake & Toro the Tortoise in the classroom during the school year. She also maintains a freshwater aquarium with a variety of fish. Alexa is passionate about introducing students to these unique creatures and loves the role her reptiles play in the classroom!

Mrs. MacFarland loves stories. Especially nonfiction stories about people's lives. That said, Mrs. MacFarland's story began in New Jersey, where she grew up on a dairy farm with two sisters. Being the middle child, she always had one to play with. She started teaching at the age of seven, when she attempted to teach her younger sister how to play the piano after only a few piano lessons herself. Needless to say, her mother quickly signed her younger sister up for piano lessons for fear that Mrs. MacFarland might not successfully manage the task of being a piano teacher and a piano student at the same time! Thus began the "Music" and "Teacher" chapters of her life story.

Mrs. MacFarland studied piano from age seven all the way through college (Messiah College, Pennsylvania) where she majored in Elementary Education and completed a Music Concentration in vocal and piano pedagogy. So how did she get out to Colorado you might ask. Well the "Colorado" chapter of her story actually began at Messiah College, where she met Joel MacFarland. Being two years older, Mr. MacFarland attended a Master's program at Denver University while she completed her final year of college. They were married a few weeks after Mrs. MacFarland's graduation. She closed her "New Jersey" chapter and moved to Denver so Mr. MacFarland could finish his degree. Well, flip through many Colorado chapters of her story, including nineteen years of marriage, raising two daughters, and twelve years of teaching and you will find Mrs. MacFarland in the middle of her "Teaching at CCA" chapter and thoroughly enjoying it!

The BookScanner App makes it easy to find Accelerated Reader books on Apple  iPads and iPhones. Now your trip to the public library for your AR reading materials can be much more efficient.

The app lets you know if a book has an AR quiz. Just scan the ISBN number on the back. You will also get the
  • Reading level (ATOS BL)
  • Number of AR points available for taking a quiz
  • Quiz number

It will also keep a history on each scanned book for easy reference, which you can delete at any time.

Happy reading!
