Help make ArtsFest 2016 the best ever! Be a VOLUNTEER and assist with set up, take down, or greeting participants and guests!  Call the CCAA Office at 301-392-5900 to sign up. 
Thank you!

Nearly 60 vendors have registered, displaying a wide variety of original, hand-made art, literature, carvings, sculpture and more. There are dance, community service and conservation organizations providing valuable educational information, plus three commercial vendors: Mid Atlantic Bath Solutions (Bath Fitters) to assist you with your home improvement, Sweet Escapes Travel to help plan your dream vacation, and SunTrust Bank.  A Kids Art Tent will keep the younger ones busy creating their own works of art.  

Six food vendors will be on hand, with an assortment of delicious offerings to satisfy every palate. And, there's non-stop musical performances on both stages of the Town Hall with 12 groups performing bluegrass, jazz, barbershop, choral, folk, popular and classic selections!

Historic St. Mary's City is represented with two "Time Travelers," who will stroll around the grounds portraying Maryland's First Governor, Lord Leonard Calvert, and his trusted advisor, Hugh Nash. 
 
"Lord Baltimore," the Alliance's carousel horse, will again be on display near the entrance to the Town Hall. Be sure to stop by and take your picture posing with this wonderful work of art, hand carved by the Southern Maryland Carousel Group.

This year, "Barrels by the Bay," a community environmental awareness group, is conducting a workshop. Paint your own rain barrel and take it home with you. All supplies are provided by the Potomac Project.

Help us raise funds by entering into the Fishing for (Scholarship) Funds contest.

The Korean American Cultural Arts Foundation is featuring the art of flower making with the Venerable Sukyong, a Buddhist monk skilled in constructing life-like jihwa flowers made from hanji (Korean mulberry) paper.

ArtsFest is a colorful, fun-filled, family-oriented festival.  Plan now to spend the day savoring the local talents and services of Charles County.

Theme is "Artists Without Limits"
Deadline to Submit Extended to June 20, 2016!

The Charles County Arts Alliance is now accepting submissions for a Special Summer Art Show, a multi-media public exhibit, to be held at the Charles County Government Building, 200 Baltimore Street, La Plata, Maryland, from July 13 to September 26, 2016. The gallery is adjacent to the front entrance lobby. The exhibit will recognize local artists with disabilities. The month of July is Americans with Disabilities Month. Celebrate with the Charles County Arts Alliance and the Commission on Individuals with Disabilities for this event.

Local artists with disabilities are invited to submit a maximum of two works of art on any subject, to the Charles County Arts Alliance for consideration (there is no submission fee). Artwork entries must be submitted electronically as digital images (jpegs) attached to an email sent to  waldorfwestgallery@gmail.com.  Please include Special Summer Art Show in the subject line.

    • Artist's mailing address
    • Artist's email address
    • Artist's phone number
    • Artist's biography (half-page max, in MS-Word)

On Tuesday, July 19, 2016, a "Meet the Artists" Public Reception will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, at the Charles County Government Building to honor all the "Artists without Limits" participating in the summer show.

Call for Voices

Do you like to sing challenging choral music from composers Eric Whittacre, Rene Clausen, Ola Gjeilo, Anton Brukner, Philip Stopford and Bobby McFarren? AVE (the Acapella Vocal Ensemble) is looking for new voices to be a part of their group. There is a need for Sopranos and Tenors, but they also need additional Altos and Basses. Monotypes Using Layering Techniques

This is a two-day workshop featuring monotypes produced by using various layering techniques.  Demonstrations include  layering monotypes on transparent rice papers, and other collage effects, including layering preprinted monotypes for texture and color contrast.  These techniques may include the use of natural materials like feathers, grasses and pressed flowers, or ribbons and other items to give the feeling of movement or to add color. The first day of the workshop will, for the most part, be used to prepare the materials, and the second day to assemble the final product.  All materials will be provided, but students are welcome to bring such things as pressed flowers, feathers, special papers, etc.  (All levels)

About the Charles County Arts Alliance, Inc.

 

The mission of the Charles County Arts Alliance (CCAA) is to stimulate, promote, encourage, and provide recognition of the arts and the creative spirit.  Founded in 1987, the CCAA promotes ALL the arts in Charles County:  music, visual art, drama, dance and literature.

The CCAA is the official arts council of Charles County and is recognized as such by the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC), an agency of the Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) of the State of Maryland.  In this capacity, the CCAA serves as the "umbrella" organization for the arts community in Charles County.  The CCAA promotes Charles County arts organizations and individuals, provides financial support to nonprofit organizations and the schools through its annual arts grant programs, sponsors the creation and presentation of new, diverse cultural activities and special events for the community, provides arts scholarships, and ensures the Charles County's underserved population, people with disabilities, residents with limited income, minorities, and senior citizens have access to the arts. The CCAA builds partnerships with local government, the business community and the educational community, in an effort to enhance the overall quality of life for the citizens of Charles County.
