Join us as we celebrate the arts and award nearly $45,000 in grants to Charles County nonprofits and schools to enhance their arts programming in the year ahead! Enjoy light fare, hot apple cider, wine, dessert by Gerard, a Silent Auction, and dancing to music by Greg Nichols, pianist. 

Each year the entire arts community of Charles County comes together for one night at this Gala for reconnecting, networking, warm fellowship, and fun! Our Gala is also a charity fundraising event. The Silent Auction will offer an outstanding selection of donated items, with all proceeds benefiting the Student Arts Scholarship Program.

Tickets are $30 per person and must be purchased in advance by noon, November 18. You can mail a check to CCAA, P.O. Arts Alliance Student Arts Scholarship Application Program is Now Open!

Deadline to Apply is March 4, 2016

Each year the Charles County Arts Alliance (CCAA) awards $1,000 scholarships to  one outstanding graduating senior from each high school in Charles County to further his or her study of the arts (performing, visual or literary) at a four-year college or  university.

The Charles County Arts Alliance is now accepting submissions for the Winter Art Show, a multi-media public exhibit, to be held at the Waldorf West Library, 10405 O'Donnell Place, Waldorf, MD, from January 9 to April 2, 2016. The Library consists of four separate gallery spaces on two floors. 

Local artists are invited to submit a maximum of two works of art on any subject, to the Charles County Arts Alliance for consideration (there is no submission fee). Artwork entries must be submitted electronically as digital images (jpegs) attached to an email sent to

  • Artist's mailing address
  • Artist's email address
  • Artist's phone number
  • Artist's biography (half-page max, in MS-Word)

What happens when we focus less on our travel destinations and more on the actual act of journeying? How can photographers use the camera as a means of showing movement through landscape?  This exhibit brings together the work of four photographers, Caleb Charland (Maine), Candace Gaudiani (California), E. Brady Robinson (Washington, DC), and Alexandra Silverthorne (Washington, DC), to explore these questions. While each photographer tackles the journey through landscape with different constraints and styles, the viewer is ultimately presented with a unified series that prompts consideration of movement whether through landscape or even activities of daily life.

November 12:  I Am Malala:  The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai.   When the Taliban took control of the Swat Valley in Pakistan, one girl spoke out. Malala Yousafzai refused to be silenced and fought for her right to an education.   On Tuesday, October 9, 2012, when she was fifteen, she was shot in the head at point-blank range while riding the bus home from school, and few expected her to survive.  Instead, Malala's miraculous recovery has taken her on an extraordinary journey from a remote valley in northern Pakistan to the halls of the United Nations in New York. At sixteen, she became a global symbol of peaceful protest and the youngest nominee ever for the Nobel Peace Prize.

 is the tragedy of the Compson family, featuring some of the most memorable characters in literature: beautiful, rebellious Caddy; the manchild Benjy; haunted, neurotic Quentin; Jason, the brutal cynic; and Dilsey, their black servant. Their lives fragmented and harrowed by history and legacy, the character's voices and actions mesh to create what is arguably Faulkner's masterpiece and one of the greatest novels of the twentieth century.

December 3:  The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd.   Hetty "Handful" Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke's daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women. Kidd's sweeping novel is set in motion on Sarah's eleventh birthday, when she is given ownership of ten-year-old Handful, who is to be her handmaid. We follow their remarkable journeys over the next thirty-five years, as both strive for a life of their own, dramatically shaping each other's destinies and forming a complex relationship marked by guilt, defiance, estrangement and the uneasy ways of love.

December 5:  The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro.    The Remains of the Day is a profoundly compelling portrait of the perfect English butler and of his fading, insular, postwar England world. At the end of his three decades of service at Darlington Hall, Stevens embarks on a country drive, during which he looks back over his career to reassure himself that he has served humanity by serving "a great gentleman."  But lurking in his memory are doubts about the true nature of Lord Darlington's "greatness" and graver doubts about his own faith in the man he served.

About the Charles County Arts Alliance, Inc.


The mission of the Charles County Arts Alliance (CCAA) is to stimulate, promote, encourage, and provide recognition of the arts and the creative spirit.  Founded in 1987, the CCAA promotes ALL the arts in Charles County:  music, visual art, drama, dance and literature.

The CCAA is the official arts council of Charles County and is recognized as such by the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC), an agency of the Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) of the State of Maryland.  In this capacity, the CCAA serves as the "umbrella" organization for the arts community in Charles County.  The CCAA promotes Charles County arts organizations and individuals, provides financial support to nonprofit organizations and the schools through its annual arts grant programs, sponsors the creation and presentation of new, diverse cultural activities and special events for the community, provides arts scholarships, and ensures the Charles County's underserved population, people with disabilities, residents with limited income, minorities, and senior citizens have access to the arts. The CCAA builds partnerships with local government, the business community and the educational community, in an effort to enhance the overall quality of life for the citizens of Charles County.
