Community Bank of the Chesapeake, in partnership with the Charles County Art Alliance, is now accepting submissions for their fourth art show in 2016, a multi-media exhibit, to be held at the Main Waldorf Branch, 3035 Leonardtown Road, Waldorf, MD, from November 18, 2016, to March 10, 2017
Local artists are invited to submit a maximum of two works of art for consideration (there is no submission fee).  Artwork entries must be submitted electronically as digital images (jpegs) attached to an email sent to  Please reference "Community Bank Gallery" in the subject line.

This musical comedy opens with the cast of the Royal Music Hall in London, where the rowdy group of actors is about to portray one of the greatest mysteries of Victorian England. Charles Dickens had begun writing this very mystery "when he committed the one ungenerous deed of his noble career: He died." Accordingly, the cast needs the help of the audience to decide the real ending of the show.   Who died?  Whodunit?  Who witnessed it?  Who was the mysterious detective investigating the case? These are all questions the audience will answer near the final curtain, creating an ending that will never be the same from show to show! Jacques Wieciech is a professional countertenor, a singer who specializes in male vocal repertoire that is written in a range usually sung by women. A popular genre in the 18th century, countertenor music was performed by the leading singers of the era. In 2010, Wieciech was a student of Brian Parsons of the Conservatory of Lyon while studying in London. He has been invited to sing in two high-profile operatic performances in 2017: in January, the role of Third Spirit in Mozart's  The Magic Flute at Anne Arundel Community College; and in the summer, the music of the early Baroque master Claudio Monteverdi in a production of  The Coronation of Poppea at professional venues in Italy.  
A resident of Baltimore, Wieciech uses funding from his professional vocal performances to support charitable causes such as the Anne Arundel County Foster Parent Association. Mary Whitmore learned how to make Ukrainian painted eggs at the age of 8 from her Slovenian grandmother, a tradition she has carried on through today. Eggs are made with simple to complex designs using a wax stylus and dyes. Mary will teach simple Christmas designs and then convert them to hanging ornaments, if preferred. Painted eggs are traditionally given to friends, neighbors and religious leaders as a symbol for rebirth, resurrection and a good harvest. A $5.00 fee will be paid to the instructor for a Ukrainian egg decorating kit that will include many designs, stylus, wax and dyes to make further eggs as desired.

Sansone's current body of artwork is a critical response to the disproportionate role of the Military Industrial Complex in our society. There is always a new enemy or evil to vanquish leading to war without end. Ultimately, his body of work is born of his own identity and his response to it as a former member of the Military Industrial Complex, and having grown up during the height of the Cold War in the 1980s. In the end, these works do not answer the questions or propose solutions, but hopefully cause the viewer to consider, with more than a cursory glance, the visual culture of our cities, our entertainment, our public art, and our media.

MFA celebrates this disruption by changing their annual photography show,  Focal Point, to an exhibition examining artistic use of digital media. Eligible artwork may be either 2-D or 3-D work that is created and/or produced through the use of software, whether purchased or artist-created, including photography, graphic design, digital painting, video, projection, and limited only by the artist's imagination.  Juror is  Hamidah Glasgow, Executive Director and Curator at The Center for Fine Art Photography. It's only a minute until the train moves on, but it's enough. Now everything's changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel goes to the police. But is she really as unreliable as they say? Soon she is deeply entangled not only in the investigation but in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?

November 2:  The Journal Reopened by Mary Ann Jenkins.  When I began reading my grandmother's journal, I knew that my grandmother, Sadie Crowe, was talking to me from beyond the grave through her words. I really didn't want to hear all those things Grandmother told me, but she convinced me to start my own journal and trust in God. What I wrote in my journal was straight from my heart, just like grandmother suggested. However, the secrets I revealed could possibly come back to haunt me in the future. Hard feelings, hate, and misunderstandings might have a way of rearing their ugly heads for me as they did for Grandmother.

November 3:  The Escape by David Baldacci.   It's a prison unlike any other. Military discipline rules. Its security systems are unmatched. None of its prisoners dream of escaping. They know it's impossible . . . until now.   John Puller's older brother, Robert, was convicted of treason and national security crimes. His inexplicable escape from prison makes him the most wanted criminal in the country. Some in the government believe that John Puller represents their best chance at capturing Robert alive, and so Puller must bring in his brother to face justice.   As the nationwide manhunt for Robert grows more urgent, Puller's masterful skills as an investigator and strengths as a fighter may not be enough to save his brother-or himself.

November 10:  A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon, the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. Behind the cranky exterior, there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove's mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul. All of which will change one cranky old man and a local residents' association to their very foundations.

About the Charles County Arts Alliance, Inc.


The mission of the Charles County Arts Alliance (CCAA) is to stimulate, promote, encourage, and provide recognition of the arts and the creative spirit.  Founded in 1987, the CCAA promotes ALL the arts in Charles County:  music, visual art, drama, dance and literature.

The CCAA is the official arts council of Charles County and is recognized as such by the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC), an agency of the Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) of the State of Maryland.  In this capacity, the CCAA serves as the "umbrella" organization for the arts community in Charles County.  The CCAA promotes Charles County arts organizations and individuals, provides financial support to nonprofit organizations and the schools through its annual arts grant programs, sponsors the creation and presentation of new, diverse cultural activities and special events for the community, provides arts scholarships, and ensures the Charles County's underserved population, people with disabilities, residents with limited income, minorities, and senior citizens have access to the arts. The CCAA builds partnerships with local government, the business community and the educational community, in an effort to enhance the overall quality of life for the citizens of Charles County.
