A Message from Child Care Aware of NH
Hello Providers,

Happy New Year! We hope that you had a fantastic holiday with your family and loved ones. 2018 has arrived and it is going to be a great year!

As we ring in the New Year, Child Care Resource and Referral Outreach Specialists have been busy helping families find child care through visits to the District Offices, NH Employment Programs, Workplace Success Programs and general phone call inquiries. Our Outreach Specialists have recently increased their visits per month to the Workplace Success Programs as they try to help all NH families find access to quality child care. If you have a vacancy please call us at 1-855-393-1731 ext. 31.

Our Training and TA Specialists are getting ready for the next round of Progressive Training and TA Programs. If your program hasn't participated in a Progressive, we invite you to check it out. Being part of the Progressive Training and TA Program is a great way for providers to get on-site support for a variety of state initiatives. The flyer and application will be going out on Friday. In addition, we are also working with team and individual providers who are taking advantage of the Credentialing Challenge. If you want to get a credential or renew your expiring credential, this is a great time to contact Child Care Aware of NH to join the Challenge!

Child Care Aware of NH is hosting t he Caring for Our Children: Health, Safety, Nutrition and Wellness conference on Saturday, January 27th in Keene. Please see below for more details. We also have several future events that are currently being planned. Be on the lookout for more information about a NEW Pilot program, the Emergency Operation Planning for Child Care Cohorts. Information will be sent out soon about this opportunity. We also are in the process of planning the Caring for Our Children Conference in Portsmouth, as well as, the Leadership Summit Part II. More information will be coming soon. Be on the lookout later this January.

Starting this month, in our Monthly Minutes e-newsletter, CCAoNH will partner with the Child Care Licensing Unit (CCLU) to help bring information about licensing to the child care community on a regular basis. CCAoNH in partnership with the CCLU is offering a highlighted section in the Monthly Minutes. This will allow the CCLU to share information, resource and important messages. Check it out!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for everything you do for families and children. We wish you a Happy New Year and hope that you enjoy this month's edition of Monthly Minutes.

Resources to Share with Families
Try a Vroom Tip Card Activity

January is Bath Safety Month

Here are four things parents can do to help their child be safe in the tub. Share this with parents and families.
  1. Stay with your child. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children four and younger always have an adult present when they are near water.
  2. Prevent slips. Young children do not have the coordination or strength to prevent slips. Make sure to have items available to children to help with slipping in the tub.
  3. Check the temperature. Test the water temperature before allowing your child to go into the tub. This may prevent your child from getting a burn.
  4. Check for sharp edges. Look around the faucet and other areas in the bathroom for sharp edges. This may prevent a cut before it happens.
January is National Soup Month!
Share the warmth of a cup of soup with children and families. This is a great way to expose children to different flavors. Find a variety of different soup recipes and either share them with families, make them for the children or host a family event to celebrate soup. Yum!
A Message from the Child Care Licensing Unit
We are excited to partner with Child Care Aware of NH to bring news from the Child Care Licensing Unit to the child care community on a regular basis through their e-newsletter, Monthly Minutes. Every month, we will strive to bring you information to increase your understanding of the NH Child Care Licensing rules, and to share other resources to assist you in your work with and on behalf of children and their families. We will also use this space to share any important announcements as they relate to Child Care Licensing.

REVISED RULE UPDATE: We are diligently working on the newly adopted Child Care Licensing Rules to provide them to you with the table of contents, index, and shading of the critical rules as we have in the past. By the time you read this, those rules, along with updated forms, MAY be available on our website: We are really close to having the official version to share! Until then, the adopted rule without editorial corrections, and a summary of major changes to the rules, are under CCLU Licensing Rules here:

CCLU Staffing: Here you will find a PDF with the 12 Licensing Coordinators and the towns they cover. In addition, we have provided their work cell phone numbers and email addresses if you wish to contact the licensing coordinator assigned to your town directly. They will return messages and reply to emails as soon as they are able, but please remember they are visiting programs most days of the week so they may not have the opportunity to reply for several days.

If you need a more immediate answer to a question, please call the main office at (603) 271-9025. The phone will be answered by Patty Galloway, Pat Fish, or Cyndi Haywood, our wonderful support staff, or Mychelle Brown, our competent Office Manager! If they are unable to answer your question, they will refer you to a licensing coordinator as at least one is available daily to return calls. Please leave a message if you reach our voicemail so your call can be returned as soon as possible! Until next month!
