July 2018 Monthly Minutes
A Message from Child Care Aware of NH
Hello Providers and Hello July,

Bring on the hot days, water play and fun in the sun! This month, CCAoNH employees are heating up as we work to help children, families and providers across the state.

Check out what our Child Care Resource and Referral Outreach Specialists did in May. Outreach Specialists continue to work with the District Offices, the New Hampshire Employment Programs and Workplace Success. On May 3rd, Outreach Specialists attended the United Way Baby Shower in Nashua. Then on May 12, Outreach Specialists had a booth at the Baby and Mama Expo in Manchester. During these events, we reached out to families to provide information about our services as well as how to find quality child care. In addition, we have been following up with providers about the 2018 Provider Update to ensure accuracy in our database.

Our Training and TA Specialists continue to support providers through technical assistance. The 2018 Progressive Training and TA Program and the Emergency Operation Planning Cohort are both well underway. CCAoNH staff are supporting these programs as they work to improve program quality on their selected initiative.

The training season has officially come to an end. Typically CCAoNH does not provide training during the summer months; however this year, CCAoNH is facilitating several summer trainings. On July 10, 2018, CCAoNH will host Water Safety Training with Scott Noyes. We are also facilitating the Quality Rating & Improvement System (QRIS) Listening Sessions. There are multiple sessions being offered across the state. See the flyer below for more details.

Be on the lookout for CCAoNH's 2018 Provider Survey . The surveys were mailed out on Friday, June 29th. Included with the survey are Feedback Postcards and a flyer for our 2018 CCAoNH Feedback Forums that will be hosted throughout the summer. Please see below for more details.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for everything you do for families and children. We hope that you enjoy this month's edition of Monthly Minutes.

4th of July Celebrations

Check out the two (2) websites below. They have lists of 4th of July Celebrations across the state. Share them with families, so we can all celebrate Independence Day.

National Heatstroke Prevention Day is July 31!
The NH CPS program would like to remind everyone that National Heatstroke Prevention day is July 31, 2018. Their goal is to promote awareness throughout the month of July. Each year, an average of 48 children die from heat stroke in parked vehicles. While some cases involve parents forgetting a baby in the backseat, many more cases involve children between the ages of two and six who gain access to a vehicle and become trapped.

Teach children that cars are not toys. Allowing a child to play in a vehicle just once may have dangerous consequences. Show your children how to activate the emergency trunk release and to honk the horn if they are locked in a vehicle accidentally. Keep vehicles locked and keys out of reach.  If your child goes missing check your vehicle immediately. The inside temperature of a vehicle can rise 35 degrees in less than 10 minutes. Time is critical. If you notice a child alone in a vehicle, call 911 immediately.

NH CPS Child Passenger Safety team and Instructor team continue to promote this message with every car seat installation. If you would like more information on what prevention materials are available or a list of upcoming car seat events and classes please email: Julie.A.Dietrich@hitchcock.org .
A Message from the Child Care Licensing Unit
We are excited to collaborate with Child Care Aware of NH to bring news from the Child Care Licensing Unit to the child care community on a regular basis through their e-newsletter, Monthly Minutes. Every month, we will strive to bring you information to increase your understanding of the NH Child Care Licensing Rules, and to share other resources to assist you in your work with and on behalf of children and their families. We will also use this space to share any important announcements as they relate to Child Care Licensing Unit (CCLU).
Please check back next month for a message from the Child Care Licensing Unit.
Thank you.
