From the very first days of school, teachers learn about the child as an individual and can then work to incorporate the interests of the child into daily classroom activities. For example, Circle Time can be set up to have students choose the type of greeting they would like to start the day with. Activity Centers can grow and have objects added to them with the guidance of the students, where the actual center itself can be created by the students. We will discuss these examples and many more to assist teachers with shifting to a Child Directed Learning approach along with other significant benefits for the students and teachers!
