CCAoNH Early Childhood

Focused Collaborative Meetings

Child Care Aware of New Hampshire (CCAoNH), a program of Southern New Hampshire Services, is offering virtual Early Childhood Focused Collaborative Meetings for Directors, Administrators, Teachers, and other Early Childhood Professionals. These Meetings are group-driven to reflect the participant’s needs and interests and to provide participants with information about the focused topics. Professional Development hours earned through these collaboratives can be used for the required 18 hours of training per year. In addition, participants will learn about Child Care Aware of NH program updates, essential local and State information, and other professional development opportunities.

Topic: Bekah Kistler, ECPDST, and Postpartum Doula (DONA) will be joining us to speak about the importance of supporting parents and families during the postpartum period. She will also discuss from the family's point of view some of the changes to be aware of during this period. We will have time during the session for any questions you may have!

*This collaborative qualifies for 1.5 hours of the required 9 hours needed for the Infant and Toddler Endorsement for the Early Childhood Professional Development System credential applications.

Topic: This month, Becky Ayling, Kinship Navigation Program Manager, Parenting a Second Time Around (PASTA) will join us. The Kinship Navigation Program available through the Family Resource Centers across the state aims to provide resources, connection, and support to kinship caregivers (those caring for related and non-related children, formally and informally). The program, supported by the NH Children’s Trust, is embedded in each of the Family Resource Centers and provides tailored support services in each community. Becky will share information about this program, how to access these supports, what other resources are available to kinship caregivers, and how to access training and support for community partners/providers.

Topic: This month, John Watkins, Educational & Training Officer, from FEMA will be joining us.

Cyber Theft has become the third largest economy in the world. And don’t think that it only applies to big business. Individual cyber theft has just exceeded 16 billion dollars annually. There is no magic checklist or program you can install that totally protects you or your business. Rather it is a series of small steps, knowledge, and awareness that are crucial to protecting your business. It is not only the money that is lost in a cyber theft. There is also a loss of confidence in you by, your customers and suppliers. Attend this talk to learn how you can better secure your business and personal assets. *This training qualifies for the required 1.5 hours of the needed 3 hours of Health & Safety Training per year.

Topic: This month, Lynnette Lawrence, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Ed Consultant with the Bureau of Special Education Support from the NH Department of Education will be talking about Universal Design for Learning. UDL is an educational framework that guides the creation of learning environments that proactively address the diverse needs of all learners, including young children. At its core, UDL assists educators with minimizing barriers to learning and providing learners flexibility in how they access and possess new knowledge. In this presentation, the three primary principles of UDL will be reviewed and examples of UDL application in early childhood learning environments will be shared.

Topic: This month, Courtney Porter, MSW, MEd School Social Worker, and McKinney-Vento Liaison/DCYF Point of Contact from SAU 6 in Claremont NH, will be joining us to share information and resources on the topic of homelessness and how it impacts the children and families we serve. This is a powerful presentation with stories of NH families who are experiencing homelessness and what we can do to support them.

Offering Risky Play Experiences in

Early Childhood Programs

Topic: This month we will discuss risky play experiences in early childhood programs. What used to be considered typical childhood activities for previous generations are now a lot less common (OutsidePlay.ca). Many early childhood educators understand the importance of risky play; however, they may be hesitant due to safety concerns and regulations. Fortunately, there are strategies teachers can use that allow children to take safe risks in play. Join us for this thought-provoking topic that is sure to spark much discussion!
