Thank you for Sharing the Magic!
Because of the support from the 2023 Share the Magic event, the CCC Foundation will again provide $105,000 in Magic Opportunity funding support for CCC students enrolled in certificate and degree seeking programs enrolled for the 2023-24 academic year.
The Magic Opportunity Fund provides impactful support to help CCC students enrolled in certificate and degree seeking programs to have access to the tools and resources they need to succeed!
For 2022-23, there were 538 certificate and degree-seeking students.
  • 70 were selected to receive the Magic Opportunity Fund, which provided a $1,500 stipend applied to student accounts at $500 per term.
  • After Fall term 69 out of 70 either enrolled in winter term courses or graduated.
  • After Winter term 64 enrolled in spring term courses or graduated.
  • At the end of the spring term ~83% (58 students) persisted compared to ~60% for certificate and degree-seeking students who did not receive the Magic Fund!
Noelle Johnson - "Being a recipient of the 2022-23 Magic Opportunity Fund fills me with a sense of gratitude and renewed hope for the future. This award will help to alleviate some of the financial burden associated with being a college student so that I can worry less about money and focus on what’s most important, studying and raising my daughter. I look forward to becoming a nurse one day so that I can help people in need just as you have so generously helped me."
Angelo Schauermann -"Thank you for your generous gift to the Magic Opportunity Scholarship, and to me as a student at Clatsop Community College. Born and raised in Clatsop, I have had the pleasure of working and raising my own family in Clatsop for the last twenty years. In 2022, I enrolled at Clatsop Community College with the end goal of transferring to a state university and become a licensed therapist and serve our community in the mental health field. Thank you for helping me with this scholarship as I learn and grow."
Thank you Roundhouse Foundation
The Roundhouse Foundation for the 2023-24 academic year, has provided $50,000 in grant funding support to help replace the cost of the replacement air tank (SCBA) fill station at the MERTS campus. This is a critical piece of equipment utilized by the Maritime and Fire Science students as well as Fire Departments located in Clatsop and surrounding Counties.

The Round House Foundation also funded a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Equipment grant in the amount of $22,500 for 2023-24 ($7,500 per term). These funds are designated to help provide CTE students with equipment or supplies needed for their respective program.

Deborah O'Reilly
I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to set up this generational scholarship in memory of my Nana-Beulah and Mom-Alice.

As a RN myself for over 36 years, I was inspired by these 2 amazing women to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse.  My Nana graduated in 1915, my mom in 1955 and myself in 1987, all together we represent 108 years of nursing. Although advancement in medicine and technology have come a long way, the basic principles of caring for those in need is still the same.
I have been honored and humbled to have taken care of patients and families during their most difficult and vulnerable times but also blessed and honored to have been there during their happiest moments. There will be patients that leave their fingerprints on our hearts forever and in return we will leave ours on their hearts in ways we may never know.

I pray the recipients of this scholarship will have a rewarding career as well as a heart full of accomplishments and memories.

Three generations of nursing pins.

We would love to see this trend continue upward, and by doing so we'll continue to grow our fundraising efforts within our community. Successful fundraising means more scholarships and impactful educational opportunities for our students!

Jack Ficken - VP Relationship Mgr./Commercial Loan Officer at Lewis & Clark Bank
Attended CCC from 1983-1984
"As a small business bank lender, I've noticed our [local] businesses are in need of people that have a financial background. Accounting and other small business classes are available for students to take at CCC. Also, the trades really need the support of the community college - especially something like the CDL program that we'll be offering. The 1-on-1 instruction you can get at CCC compared to a large university is a very big deal."
Aside from being a successful CCC graduate and a well-known financial professional in Astoria, Jack Ficken is also a CCC Board Member. Watch the video below to hear more about his experiences and why he believes CCC is vital to our community.
