August 2021 Newsletter

Now, more than ever, the CCCIA is here to help.
Good Day fellow CCCIA Members,

Welcome! I hope you are having a positive start to the new school year! Hard to believe that it is already mid August and our summer is rapidly coming to a close. Isn't Summer supposed to be our "slow" time of the year? Apparently, Cape Coral no longer experiences "slow" times. "Season" is all year long. With the increased activity, most of us are very busy. In fact, I am not aware of any CCCIA members that are struggling for work, but if you do need help, be sure to hire only fellow CCCIA members. If you are working with subs that aren't members, why? Send them to Janis. She will sign them up so they too can reap the benefits of being a part of the CCCIA.

We have two informative events this month. We are hosting a bookkeeping and accounting webinar on 8/17 and our dinner meeting is on 8/19. The subject of the webinar is designed to show you ways that bad bookkeeping can tank your company and how to seal the "leaks" in your profitability. Hiring people/firms that specialize in construction can save your company HUGE amounts of money. Invest an hour to increase your profits and streamline your accounting practices. It is FREE. It is on Zoom. You can't afford NOT to attend. Register today.

Dinner on the 19th features Cape Coral City Manager, Rob Hernandez. I am looking forward to hearing how he sees the evolution of our "BIG" small town in the coming years. There will be a Q&A so this is your chance to get answers directly from the City!

If there is a subject you think we should cover in a webinar or dinner, please let us know. I hope to see you soon.

As always, if you need me, please reach out.
Best Regards,
Melanie Williamson

Senate Approves $550B Infrastructure Bill in Bipartisan Effort
WASHINGTON (Aug. 10, 2021) — The United States Senate has passed the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act in a 69 to 30 vote this week. The bill would provide $550 billion in new infrastructure investments and, according to a White House fact sheet, will supply approximately 2 million jobs per year over the next decade. If passed by the House and signed by President Biden, the bill will be the largest federal investment in public transportation ever, the single largest dedicated bridge investment since the construction of the interstate highway system and the largest investment in clean drinking water and waste water infrastructure in American history. of America (AGC) is designed to lessen the carbon footprint of the built environment while also making the process of building projects even more efficient.

“This infrastructure package contains the most significant investment in our nation’s infrastructure in a generation and could yield crucial wins for the American people and construction industry, It is promising to see progress made toward modernizing our nation’s roads, bridges, water infrastructure, transit, railways, ports and other critical infrastructure. This bipartisan accomplishment is something that has eluded Congress for decades and is proof of the possibilities when lawmakers choose compromise over conflict." - Michael Bellaman, Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) President and CEO.

CRA- OKs $10.35 Million Parking Garage Contribution
“The only way we can make this work is for the city to loan the CRA the money up front and then pay back the city over a 20-year period through the tax revenue generated from this project,” Hernandez said.
South Cape redevelopment agency will borrow money from the city, pay it back over 20 years with tax dollars it receives. The agency unanimously approved and committed $10,350,000 up front toward the “The Cove Project”  for the parking garage component, which will include 125 spaces reserved for public parking on the lower levels of the 525-stall, multi-story structure.

Back to School

Members & Friends,

As August is upon us, it is once again the time when we send our kiddos back to school. Summer break was way too short. Ask any school age child and they will agree. As we start another school year, let's look to our trade schools and colleges that offer opportunities to the next generation of workers. With construction at a all time high, the need for skilled tradesman has grown as well. We are always exploring ways to educate our youth that a career in the construction industry is a rewarding career choice. What's not to like about learning a trade, coming out of school with little to no debt and getting a great job that pays a living wage, all before the age of 21? This is an ongoing mission of the CCCIA to help educate our youth in the positives of learning a trade.

July permits continue to break records. Once again, over 400 single family permits were issued in a single month. The City reported 406 single family home permits in July, down 2 from 408 in June. 3,459 single family permits have been issued FY2021, with two months left to go! At this rate, we will reach 4k SFH permits issued. This is something we have not seen in a very long time. Additionally, misc. permits have exceeded the total number for FY2020 with two months left to go. Misc. is defined as anything that would attach to a SFH permit, pool permit, fence permit, ECT. As of July 2021 the City had issued 34,606 misc. permits. Two things that jumped out at me when I saw this number was one; the City issued 30,407 total misc. permits in all of 2020, and two; that is a 10K permit increase with two months left to go! What a great time to be in this business! I am sure you agree, this year has for sure been one for the books.

We are looking forward to having our City Manager Rob Hernandez as our featured speaker at our August Dinner Meeting. City Manager Hernandez has been on the job a little over a year and he will be discussing the Cities budget and his vison for Cape Coral. With almost a billon dollar budget and over 200k residents, Cape Coral isn't that little sleepy town people thought it once was. To reserve your spot, CLICK HERE The meeting will be held Thursday, August 19th at the Palmetto Pine Country Club.

I wanted to thank all of our sponsors, players and volunteers that participated in our CCCIA Hard Hat Hold'em Poker Tournament in July. A great time was had by all and the event was a huge success for the CCCIA. Our next "BIG" event is going to be our Third Annual Preferred Materials CCCIA Clay Shootout on November 5th. Information will be out shortly for this sporting outdoor event. "Busting clay makes my day!" Don't miss your opportunity to spend the day shooting guns, eating BBQ and raising money for the CCCIA.

As a CCCIA member, think about companies you work with that would benefit from membership. Your referrals are mutually beneficial.. As I tell our members, we are stronger in numbers! The CCCIA is the association supporting the construction industry. We are your advocate in the City of Cape Coral.

Stay safe and healthy.
