Dear Colleagues,
Happy New Year! I enjoy all that the new year brings – a recommitment to ourselves, our goals and to the people around us including the students we impact daily. The new year also brings optimism, opportunity and hope for better things to come.
I am proud that our agency can provide the information and teaching resources shared in our monthly Dateline newsletter. We offer hundreds of professional development opportunities throughout the school year on many different topics that we hope you take advantage of. This month, we offer trainings and workshops related to English learners, early childhood education, equity in education, youth mental health and digital media literacy. Additionally, the newsletter has links to resources from our educational and community partners, as well as information for grants, scholarships and awards.
January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Awareness month. There are many in our county who are working to eliminate human trafficking in our communities. By learning the signs that an individual may be a victim, we can all play a key part in helping to end all forms of human trafficking.
This month is also National Staying Healthy Month, and they say laughter is the best medicine. As you welcome students back to the classroom, I hope you can connect with joy, laughter and anticipation of the new year.
Please enjoy and share Dateline with your fellow educators. Wishing all of you a great new year.
With gratitude,
Lynn Mackey
Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools
