Dear Colleagues,

Happy New Year! As we return to the classroom and our daily routines, I hope you can continue to maintain focus on your mental and physical health and wellbeing. Every new year brings a renewed focus on our personal and professional aspirations, and with January being Stay Healthy Month, keeping a healthy mind and body are essential for growth and success.

On January 15, we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His unwavering commitment to equality, justice, and nonviolence continues to inspire. MLK Day serves as a reminder for us to reflect on Dr. King's teachings and to actively promote unity, respect, and understanding within our educational community. Let us strive to build a more inclusive and compassionate society where every individual is valued and given equal opportunities to thrive.

January is also recognized as Human Trafficking Awareness Month. It is an important time to raise awareness about this issue that affects millions worldwide, including in our county. It is our collective duty to educate ourselves and our students about the signs of human trafficking, and advocate for the rights and well-being of those who have fallen victim to this modern-day slavery. Visit the Contra Costa Human Trafficking Coalition’s website for important resources.

As always, below is a list of webinars and information offered in a range of educational topics, both in-person and virtual, as well as free and for a fee. I hope you find this resource useful and please feel free to share with your colleagues who may be interested.

With gratitude,

Lynn Mackey
