Next Potluck Meeting

September 16 6:30 pm

Hello Everyone,

September is upon us—happy early autumn!

On Wednesday, September 16th, we will be hosting our usual potluck with a guest speaker Jane Taylor (see bio below) following dinner. Jane will share her insights from her research on human/horse communication theory. She will help us to expand our conversations with each other and especially our horses.

Dinner will begin at 6:30 PM, followed by the presentation at 7:30 PM. Please RSVP as soon as you can and let me know what you are bringing so we can supplement what we need. maureengamelli2@gmail.com During the meeting, we will also recap the recent car show—another one in the bucket!

Looking ahead, our potluck meeting in October will feature Dr. John Perdizet, who is board certified in Equine medicine. His presentation will cover topics including acupuncture and sports medicine therapies.

Additionally, I would like to extend many thanks to Carol Frank and the Saratoga Driving Club for their generous donation. Many thanks also to all of our wonderful sponsors for the show, and to Sadie for all of her hard work. Finally, congratulations to Jeff Zitnay for winning the coveted cold laser therapy equipment!

About Jane Taylor...

Jane Taylor started riding lessons in England at 4 years old back in the 70’s. She continued her equine education while riding, exercising, grooming, competing, fox hunting & care taking through many farms and trainers around the Chatham, NY area and beyond. She spent 7 years as an equine vet assistant for the Equine Clinic at Oakencroft. Among many discussions while in the vet truck was an exciting study on giving horses choice around wearing blankets that came out in 2017 from the Norwegian Veterinary Institute. After transitioning her work back to daily horse care, she began to use her practical skills, pattern recognition, & science-based curiosity that she had solidified as an assistant to come up with a simple way to offer choice with targeted hand signs. What she discovered was a doorway into what horses are thinking in real time. Jane’s confidence in the consistency and logic of the horses’ answers over the last 6 years has given way to a clearer path forward in many aspects of horse / human understanding & especially - horse welfare.
