Message from the President
Cyndi Framme,
President
Spring is coming to an end, but our CCFC community involvement brought joy to hundreds of children in San Luis Obispo County!!! Children’s Day in the Plaza was festive as always…bringing young children (and many older ones) to our booth at Mission Plaza to make Fruit Loop necklaces (we witnessed many getting eaten in between being strung), a long CCFC tradition …thank-you Trustee Verniece Lincoln for being our trailblazer!!! Followed by giving out 500 free kites at the Morro Bay Kite Festival…the kids got to decorate and fly their kites amongst the professionals worldwide to music and candy drops. A very special “thank-you” goes out to RRM Design Group who assembled all 500 kites as their community project on our behalf…so blessed for Trustee Carol Berry for leading our way!!! Most recently, we brought craft projects to Camp Reach for the Stars assisting Jack’s Helping Hands, once again a long tradition between our two non-profits…20 children battling cancer were all smiles as they painted wooden nightlights, made necklaces, played with PlayDoh and bubble wands. Trustee Vanessa Fujimoto, we thank-you, and we know Nancy Poe is smiling down on us for a cause near and dear to her heart as well. Wishing you a fabulous summer, Cyndi

Morro Bay Kite Festival
Peggy Bowman-Kelley, Kristy Wilson, Trustee Carol Berry, Marilyn Blake, and LeeAnne Fisher hand out kites for children to decorate.
At the heart of the Morro Bay Kite Festival has always been a goal of bringing people together to learn about the art of kite flying in a safe, fun, and relaxing environment. Boasting some of the best kite flying weather in the country, Morro Bay was a natural location for this kind of gathering. 18 years ago, festival organizer Shaun Farmer was invited to be a vendor in another city’s kite festival, leaving home with an assortment of kites from his shop. He
returned to Morro Bay with seeds of the Kite Festival planted in his head. 2023 will be the sixteenth year of the festival, each one more grand and joyful than the last. One of Shaun’s favorite memories:
A little girl gave her kite to her grandfather to hold while she was in the bathroom. When she returned, he was flying her kite himself. He had the biggest smile on his face and almost didn't want to give it back.

Children and parents participate in crafts.
Sponsored by Jack's Helping Hand, the goal at Camp Reach for the Stars is to give kids coping with cancer the chance to be kids – an experience often taken away or put on hold by the disease. It allows the children to shed the hefty “cancer-patient” label. While at camp, the children are able to let loose and have fun participating in normal summer camp activities, all while surrounded by fellow campers and counselors who know firsthand what they are going through.
“Camp Reach for the Stars exceeded our expectations! Our family was welcomed with hugs, smiling faces, gifts, fantastic food, fun events, and best of all, family time. As a first-time family, we were impressed with all of the hard work and effort JHH put into spoiling families and creating a special time to relax, bond and make new memories. A huge thank you to JHH and team!”

CCFC Meetings
Did you know CCFC's monthly meetings are held in members' and trustees' homes? We are a 100% volunteer organization and the less overhead results in more money to award in grants!
Each meeting features a resource presentation. A grant recipient is invited to speak at each meeting, providing more detailed information about their organization and how CCFC grant funds are used. It also offers the opportunity for CCFC members to make a personal connection. At right, Andrea Kiesler of the SLO Food Bank speaks at the April meeting.
CCFC is fortunate to have a very active group of trustees. Pictured are Ricki Pace, Jeanette Meek, Cheryl Fernandez, Muriel Harkins, Deronda Burdette, and Mary Ciernia.
