June is National Safety Month and it’s our time to focus on how we can keep our environment safe and free from dangers. It is a time to reflect on our working conditions and how we can create a safer environment. We all know that June in our great city is HOT! Here are some Summer Safety Tips to help us all beat the heat!

  • Stay Hydrated – Dehydration is a huge concern during the summer months, and we lose a lot of water when it’s hot. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids throughout the day.

  • Protect Your Skin – One in five Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70 and more than two people die of skin cancer in the U.S. every hour. Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going outside. Reapply sunscreen every two hours or after swimming or sweating.

  • Eye Safety – The sun’s ultraviolet (UV) light can harm the eyes. Sun damage can occur to the eyes at any time of the year. Wear sunglasses year-round whenever you are out in the sun and make sure the sunglasses will block 99 to 100 percent of both UVA and UVB light.
