Marian Community Clinics
Working to Provide Free Flu Vaccines

The CCGGA has been offered a unique opportunity through Marian Community Clinics to provide nursery employees with free flu vaccines.  Olivia Mora, Outreach Coordinator, has found it is difficult and costly for employees to leave work to receive the flu vaccine at traditional outreach locations.  To meet this challenge, Marian Community Clinics have decided to bring the clinic to the employees.

Marian Community Clinics are looking for nurseries to provide a short period of time during the work day for employees to receive a flu vaccine at the nursery.  The on-site vaccine clinic would include a short informational meeting about the vaccine.  This outreach program is funded by grants that Marian Community Clinic has been awarded.  Pacific Personnel has been participating for many years and highly recommends this program.

If you are interested in providing a flu vaccine clinic at your nursery please contact Amy Spence at [email protected] or 800-961-8901.

Arroyo Grande Harvest Festival
The Central Coast Greenhouse Growers Association participated in the Arroyo Grande Harvest Festival on
September 27, 2014.

Families had the opportunity to take home celery, kale, lettuce, and red cabbage starts for their gardens! Native Sons provided information on living walls. Holland America's flower cart was a beautiful center point of our display.

Wpromoted our upcoming Open House and shared products from our industry with locals.  It was a fantastic outreach event!  Next year, the Agriculture Pavilion would like to feature gardening in small spaces.  If you have any ideas please let me know!

Clearwater Nursery Fire Breakout

Clearwater Nursery had a fire breakout on 9/15/14 around 4pm in one of their propagation greenhouses. The cause of the fire is suspected to be an electrical control box located on the sidewall of the greenhouse. Approximately 25K s.f. of greenhouse was damaged

along with a substantial number of mother stock plants. In addition, over a

$100k of growing materials inventory stored just outside of the greenhouse was destroyed in the fire.

The cleanup and rebuild process is underway and is expected to be completed by January 1st, 2015.

The  Central  Coast  Greenhouse Growers Association (CCGGA) was founded to provide a cohesive organization that acts as a good neighbor within the local and regional community, providing information and education to neighbors; other community groups or businesses; and county, state, or federal agencies.

The CCGGA acts on behalf of its members in resolving issues that may arise with neighboring communities, as we work to coexist and enjoy the numerous benefits the Central Coast provides for both living and growing high-quality plants.
